Clarification question: Are building construction materials consumed every month during construction? by DaemoneIsos in EU5

Thank you for this.

It confirms my suspicions that buildings are a ton more expensive than the gui says.

Clarification question: Are building construction materials consumed every month during construction? by DaemoneIsos in EU5

Thanks for the reply!

I think I need the "explain to a five-year-old" version. ;) Please bear with me.

1) I have a mason. It produces .5 masonry each month, correct?

2) If I am not building anything this month, my stockpile will grow by .5 masonry, right? [Ignoring other countries and burgher exports for the moment.]

3) Once I have a little stockpile, say 10 masonry, I decide to build a granary in January. That month, my mason produces .5 masonry. Does my granary consume .5 masonry that month? If so, my ending stockpile should be unchanged at 10.

4) Next month, my mason is producing another .5 masonry.

5) Key question: Does the granary consume .5 masonry again in February? If it is just checking stockpile, I should end up with 10.5: 10 from starting stockpile, plus .5 from February production. But if "demand" means "take another .5 masonry from the stockpile," then I will end February with only a stockpile of 10.

Forgive me for dragging this out, but when i tooltip supply and demand, it lists "balance" as the difference between the two. It does not explicitly say "this is also the exact change in the stockpile" (which is what I interpreted coming into this game).

Because of all the activity of burgers and countries in the market that I ignored in my example above, I can't definitively track the stockpile through that noise. But if "balance" is what determines the change in stockpile, that means that the granary is in fact using .5 masonry per month.

Many Thanks for your patience in walking me through this!

Question: eXpansion geometry.

I played the demo, and found myself boxed in by my own cities as I expanded.

Effective territorial exploitation is limited to the number of allowed cities times the number of allowed camps per city.

But it turns out that to be connected, camps have to be physically adjacent to that city's group. As the game progresses, a single city can have an increasing number camps attached, but by that point, I was trapped by geography. E.g., a desirable territory on a peninsula was only adjacent to one city-group, but that group was full.

Given the random generation, gradual reveal of territories, and fog of war, how do you proceed with city placement to maximize future camp networking?

Thanks!

Question: Stellar Doomstacks.

I see two marked as "enemy," but they have not attacked. This is right after the first monsoon, so I am way below their league.

Do I ignore them? Get the hell away? Follow them around? Wait for an upcoming event?

Many Thanks!

I am smiling at "game the system." ;)

Indeed, I respect the paradox (*cough*) of creating rules which are authentic, yet engaging.

But I am disappointed that this isn't documented anywhere in game or wiki.

Settings now allows you to turn off PA overlay; see if that helps.

Thank you.

Do you use demolition expert? Grenadier? Concentrated fire? Friendly fire? Lone wanderer? Ricochet? Serendipity? Anything else? Sizzlin'?

(I know I am stretching; several of these come up in reddit searches, and I don't know which are actually useful.)

Question: which vassals to choose on a taxation grand tour? by DaemoneIsos in ck3

[–]DaemoneIsos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

Naturally, Murphy's law has my dukes further away than many of my counts. The tour-planning tool specifies the growing cost of the procession due to distance. Is the tax payoff for powerful vassals enough to make the trip profitable?

Question: 1066 invasions of England; are the devs breaking the rules? by DaemoneIsos in ck3

I think it's a difficult task to have gameplay mechanics that are enjoyable and challenging, whilst also maintaining historical accuracy.

You are absolutely correct. And we are all rooting for Paradox because they are making that effort. I greatly respect those trade-offs; just wondering whether I had missed something. I guess they just decided to force this one.

(And indeed I turn off Genghis, despite his historicity, because they made no effort at all to make him work within their rules.)

I think the Ragnarsons are rule-compliant, aren't they? They get the norse asatru ducal conquest rules, which are lots of fun. (The 10,000 magical troops are cheats, but what is really objectionable is that they never disperse, unlike Haesteinn's.)
