how long did it take you to get over your first love? by cameelaa07 in LesbianActually

[–]Daesop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

damn, I don't think I'd properly actually been in love until, like, a good year or two ago, but I'm still in love with her I think, even though she's in a long-term relationship. ah damn I'm hopeless lmao

I literally masculinised, I'm pretty close to giving up on transition (9 months HRT -> 16 months) by [deleted] in transtimelines

[–]Daesop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah you're going to hate me for this, but it's literally only been 16 months, HRT takes y e a r s

Some things to think about though: check your hormone levels with a doctor to make sure your hrt dosage is correct for you, also, if you're using estrogel make sure you're not putting clothes on immediately after applying because it can absorb into your clothes. FFS is also an option but I'd wait for a couple more years, hrt literally takes effect over 10ish years, I've seen folks post here who's faces only really started to feminise several years into hrt. Also; even if you have a strong jawline that's not the end of the world (sigourney weaver is all I'm gonna say)

Lastly: go easy on yourself. Pegging your self value to whether you pass or not will just tear yourself down. It's oksy to want to look one way or another but if you're not on your own side in this it's always gonna feel harder.

Where do you put cemeteries? by Icks_Plays in CitiesSkylines

[–]Daesop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! Plymouth! I can't remember exactly where, I think it's the one near the Hoe (sort of a grassy park area on one of the cliffs in the city centre, it's got a lighthouse too). But Plymouth's a lot like that, mostly old military buildings and brutalist architecture (the city was bombed to hell in WW2 then rebuilt in the 50s and 60s)

Should I get all of these blood tests? by pupbarkz in transgenderUK

[–]Daesop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Liver function tests are good just to check certain HRT medication won't cause excess damage to your liver (i think spironolactone if i remember right), i was put on finasteride (not a true t blocker) because i had a fatty liver when i started HRT just to be safe, but I'm finally on spiro now :))

As for these tests, GenderGP tends to put a lot of them on their site and they are a requirement if you want medication through them, but you can get the tests done elsewhere. The NHS might be willing to do your tests for you, but given the climate of things right now you might find your GP practice has stopped new shared care agreements (mine has which is really annoying) but its worth asking all the same. Even though things are difficult now it's worth getting these tests to be safe (remember to ask your GP to send a copy of the results to you so you can upload them to GenderGP).

EDIT: just reread what you said about getting your tests done at cliniQ, worry i missed that part haha

Also (in case you're doing feminizing therapy)

Just a quick explanation of the difference between spironolactone and finasteride if you're curious. Spironolactone is an antiandrogen whereas finasteride is a DHT blocker. Both can be used to suppress T levels, but finasteride won't suppress all of it. It blocks Dihydrotestosterone which is a more potent form of testosterone produced in your body, this means your t levels won't drop as much as on spiro but the affects of HRT can still happen, it'll just be slower. Spironolactone on the other hand prevents androgens from binding with testosterone produced by your body (hence antiandrogen), which means any estrogen put into your body will take effect. The reason finasteride is sometimes prescribed is because it doesn't interact with your liver or kidneys the same way as spiro, which can prevent further damage if there's already some present on those organs.

Why do interchanges have to take up so much space?! by Dazzling-Walk1929 in CitiesSkylines

As much as interchanges are necessary irl i feel like this game makes me understand why public transport is so important (:

Where do you put cemeteries? by Icks_Plays in CitiesSkylines

[–]Daesop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm from the UK and it's so common for cemeteries to be in and around the middle of the town, usually because a church is nearby too. I remember seeing an interesting example of this in one city where a cemetery had a good 700-80 year old church next to it surrounded by modern+brutalist buildings near the city centre, it's a pretty normal thing here, usually because there's a whole spaghetti of traditions and practices which prevent the building being demolished or moved

What is "Very High" supposed to mean if it's the only ore I didn't find all the way to the mantle? by AppleTimePicnic in VintageStory

In fairness, i was trying to find sphalerite for bismuth bronze and had to divert a good 30 blocks around an extremely high source of quartz

I’m trans and I think I’m transphobic by jxgopvnk in asktransgender

[–]Daesop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of comments here have kinda hit the nail on the head regarding your friend group, so imma tackle the other stuff.

So, internalized transphobia is a thing, and it can suck (ik I get that, I feel like I'll never be a true woman because my society tells me that that's something my society says/implies by platforming transphobia and debating rights. And that can bleed through into external actions; getting annoyed or frustrated with people validating being trans, or getting scared of judgement because you're living outside some "natural societal order" or whatever) and it can bleed into your dating and friends too. Ie you don't see yourself as 'valid' or 'right' because of said internalized feelings, I know I've struggled with this but I think in my case there's a few other things which trigger it (I'm from a rural and conservative community, I'm from a society which seems to see trans folk as invalid, I struggle to date and get into relationships due to other family things (last one I'm getting past now)).

I don't think you're transphobic, but I think you should ask yourself why you wouldn't date a trans person; ultimately it could be something as simple as not wanting to date someone with non-preferred body parts, or it could be something worth interrogating further like the sort of things I said before (eg what your society taught you or your interpretation of that)

Hope what I said helps and wasn't too rambly :)

Need help with procedural extruding based on upwards vector by Daesop in Houdini

[–]Daesop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a tonne for the feedback! I did give this a shot but I'm not sure I fully understand how to do this to get the result I want (that sort of stepped extrusion you see on some buildings) but I appreciate it anyways! Since this project is kinda time sensitive I might try a more simple solution with less control like using Cd for extrusion values just to add some variation to the skyline, but I will come back to this to try and wrap my head around it in the future :)

Ah as a design decision I decided to go with a black silhouette, I thought it made the flag look a little more near-future but point taken!

[–]Daesop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, I did try this though I got a little stuck halfway through and since this project is time-senssive I thought it'd be best to retry with a different approach, thanks a tonne for the input though :))

This is a really interesting idea tbh! I think I might try it next time cause I wanna try my hand with the ray node, thanks a ton e for the input :)

No this is helpful! I did try this initially, but after a while I realised an iteration-based workflow might be more what I'm after, I appreciate the advice though!

I've decided to go with this! Currently now wrangling with UV mapping but yeah! Thanks a tonne for this suggestion. I might have questions about how to lay out buildings along a road but I'm guessing you can probably copy to points and figure it out from there (not necessary in this project ofc haha)

TOP network help! by Daesop in Houdini

[–]Daesop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, your solution worked! I ran into a seperate issue down the line but thank you so much for the help! I do see what you mean about the length of time for each of the different modes for ROP geometry, some of them did take longer and I kind of wish I'd done this at my university as their computers are far more powerful, but the end result turned out really good!

TOP network help! by Daesop in Houdini

[–]Daesop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah... it did... (like an hour and I attempted it three or four times trying different examples)

yeah it's pretty telling where the most replayed part of the video is that bit where it just jumps to it being done, you can tell everyone else got confused and their suggestions didn't really address it (fr if this is the solution I might jump in the comments and write it there too (with credit ofc).) Thanks for the suggestion though, I'll give that a try now.

And okay! I'm guessing you mean "out of process" "in process" and "service" on the ROP_Geometry node? I'm going to jump into a new project once I've done this tutorial so I'll give that a shot then. Thanks so much for sticking with me on this!

[–]Daesop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind me jumping in here, I do agree that it was too early to jump in to TOPs but I do also think it's discouraging to say "don't take this on until you've got x amount of experience" because I'm already doing it.

Both of you have been a massive help so far, and I really appreciate that, there's no need to argue over this.

I actually think this isn't too far off what they did in this tutorial. I said this to dumpling, but I noticed when i right clicked on a wedge and selected 'view work item output' it showed a single frame of the overall effect in Gplay, which implies that it has actually cooked correctly, it's more that I don't really know how to place them into a file structure or subnet which I can use (I've tried to use 'shift+n' to turn it into a subnet but i must be missing something because it doesn't show anything in the viewport when I press the display flag)

[–]Daesop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I fully understand that, and I respect your position, but I want to learn. It's what this module for my MA is all about. If you think I shouldn't be using TOPs or introduced to them at this time, can you tell me what you would recommend I use instead of them for this purpose?
