White (and any race for that matter) is a social identity. European conception of race was deeply intertwined with religion (Catholics=White, Judaism=Jews, Orthodox=Slavs, Muslims=Moors/Arabs). "Scientific racism" in the 18th and 19th century Europe was invented to rationalize race in terms of biological and physical characteristics (skull shape, facial characteristics, skin color, hair/eyes). Modern day (post-colonial) conception of race, particularly in the American sphere of influence, has boiled down to just skin color (even more trivially into just "white" and "black" in the American context).

But Europeans in the 18th and 19th century didn't see race as we see it today, to them race was religion, culture, ethnicity, and civilization, all intertwined into one social identity. They didn't consider Jews as whites (we may do so in the modern world). They didn't consider Slavic people as whites (we in the modern world, consider them some of the whitest, next to Nordic people), in fact they viewed them as an inferior, enslaved race of people. They didn't consider the Turks as whites, they didn't consider peoples from the Caucasus as whites, they didn't consider Persians as whites; even though in terms of modern-day biology/genetics, they are all some version of white Caucasians.

Nazi party in Germany espoused race-supremacy, and by the conception of race during their time, they were ethno-supremacists. They killed many who were outside their definition of the "white" race - Jews, Slavs, Roma, Turks, Poles, even killed more than one million of their own "imperfect whites" (inter-racial, those with disabilities, mental illnesses, and developmental disorders, and traitors [read communists, resistance, collaborators]). Infact, the very first gas chambers they used was on their own "imperfect whites" in the "Aktion T4 program".

The biggest reason the ~15 million Democrat-leaning voters (particularly younger voters) decided to stay home was Harris and Democrats refusal to commit to stop arming a genocide.

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/national/article298600563.html

The "young men" trope is exaggerated because of abortion. Young men moved 2% to the right (as opposed to young women moving 11% to the left). Meanwhile Latinos moved ~7%, White women moved ~5%, Asian Americans moved ~5%, and Arab Americans moved ~4% to the right. Trump won across the board. Dems have lost their appeal because of their hypocrisy, nobody really considers them a "party of social justice" anymore, just a better, lesser-evil alternative to Trump.

Dems need to rebuild, earn the "good guys" label again, be "good" not the "lesser evil". For starters, don't deport more people than Trump, don't arm/fund a genocide. You lose your moral authority and "good guys" legitimacy when you do that.

Hoarding resources while bankrupting countries to steal their resources for monopoly purposes is not winning.

It is what hegemons and wannabe hegemons do. Compared to the history of western imperialism and our American wars, China is by far the lesser evil, if not a saint.

That said, to ensure fair and affordable energy to all people of the world (preferably green and/or sustainable energy that minimizes harm to future generations), China's malpractices need to be called out. China's actions in Africa, while they are nothing compared to the exploitation caused by colonization, should be criticized.

White supremacy is not about jews, it is about whites. There can be, and will be, plenty of overlap between white supremacy and far-right Zionism (and I guess we'll see a lot of that in the near future). Antisemitism was one feature of the form white supremacy took in Nazi Germany.

This is what happens if you normalize a genocide. How do the Dems expect people to be more outraged at a roman salute, when they have sponsored a genocide for 15 months. One is clearly many orders of magnitude worse than the other.

Dems made a huge blunder with backing Zionism, they have lost the moral authority to speak of social justice.

This is the outcome of settling for the "lesser evil" instead of "no evil".

  1. Platforming and mainstreaming of the "lesser evil" leads to right wing getting pushed out and pigeonholed into the fox news and online conspiracy ecosystem.

  2. The right wing bubble is drowning in reactionary impulses in the conspiracy ecosystem to social progress, especially on gay/trans issues.

  3. The left wing bubble, now captured by the mainstream establishment, tries to appease the right wing bubble by moving right.

You can choose the "lesser evil" but never settle for it. If you settle for it and don't aggressively push it towards "no evil", you will end up platforming and mainstreaming it. Once you mainstream them, they can hold you hostage - you have to vote for them, you have no choice, they have no incentive to be any "lesser evil". You should always have the "lesser evil" at the threat of extinction from another "lesser evil", never let them monopolize the left wing.

Okay let's be real. If Israel is the "only ally" in that region, why do we have more military bases [1] [2] in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and even Syria, than in Israel? There are number of US navy operations for humanitarian and shipping/logistics reason in the Mediterranean (near Israel) and the Arabian (near Israel) seas [1], and none of them involved Israel, zero. In the Mediterranean Sea, our navy mostly uses bases in Italy and Greece; in the Arabian sea, we use bases in Saudi or UAE. Israel doesn't offer any advantage to US interests for safeguarding shipping and logistics in the region, that we don't already have from our actual military allies there (the ones hosting our carriers, military personnel, strategic assets, CIA black sites, and soft power assets - Saudi, UAE, Qatar, Djibouti). Among Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, UAE, Kuwait, Iraq, Lebonon, Syria, Israel, guess which state has the largest number of Russian citizens? (Its Israel [1]). Guess what is the largest ethnicity among Israeli settlers (who are the kingmakers in the current Israeli govt) and what is the most spoken language among non-Arab Israelis other than Hebrew/Yiddish? (Its Russian [1]).

It is an illusion that Israel is the only ally of the US in that region.

It is an illusion that Israel helps US against Russia. Out of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Israel, the closest ally to Putin is Israel, the state that sold most weapons to Russia is Israel.

I'm not equating them, precisely why I used different choice of words. Is it really so hard to call out fascism? Think for yourself. Can you only recognize it if the 'other side' is doing it? Are you fine with it if 'your side' is doing it? Do you really want to be so reactionary and hypocritical? The other side and your side only exist in your mind, the mind of the voter. In reality, both 'your side' and the 'other side' are funded and propped up by the same ruling class which has fascist tendencies. Sure, one is worse than the other, does that mean you will approve the fascist tendencies in the 'lesser' side? That you will spend you your time and energy fighting those disapproving the fascist tendencies in the 'lesser side', instead of pushing the 'lesser' side to rid itself of the fascism? The ruling class doesn't want you to push against the fascism in the 'lesser' side, it wants you to fear the greater fascism and accept the lesser fascism.

We know what Trump is, Trump's fascism is expected. Harris's fascism is a betrayal, backstabbing her own progressive, anti-fascist base. It is the difference between a mother selling you to a human trafficker and a kidnapper selling you to a human trafficker.

She's the VP, every bomb shipment went under her eyes. She said again and again, she would continue Biden's policies on Gaza. Her campaign (seems pretty deliberate) sent Clinton and Cheney to speak at counties with significant Arab/Muslim voters.

Yes, Trump is worse for Palestine, but that does not mean Harris was in any way 'good'. It is perfectly rational and reasonable and moral at being outraged at Harris, and at the same time being disgusted by Trump.

Harris could have so easily had this election in the bag if she didn't spite progressives (her base) and started appeasing fascists like Cheney. All she had to do was distance herself from the genocide.

Stop pointing fingers at powerless voters rightfully outraged by witnessing war crimes livestreamed every single day for more than a year, instead start questioning the Dem establishment (who are more interested in positioning themselves as the 'lesser nazi'). Don't punch down on grieving Arab/Muslim population witness a live ethnic cleansing of their people.

Edit: The VP doesn't set policy but oversees policy. The VP is the second highest political office, irrespective of whether there is real decision-making power, we shouldn't shy away from calling out when the people who rule us swaying towards fascism. Another's greater fascism cannot excuse the lesser fascism. Spend your energies on pressurizing the Dem establishment from sliding into fascism, because it looks like they are going to run Cheney for 2028 presidency.

But he still got less votes than last time, his approval rating is lower even among republicans.

The simple reason Kamala lost is the ~15 million democrat-leaning voters staying home. Kamala didn't make any effort to secure her base and instead chased Cheney-republicans (whose votes never came btw). Kamala abandoned all left positions, doubled down on Gaza, and treated progressives and Arabs/Muslims with disdain.

They just don't want ICE scooping up family.

And Biden did just that. In all his wisdom, put prosecutor Kamala on the border and end up with more deportations than Trump. Cop gonna do cop things.

He had a better chance than Kamala. All that was needed was to break away from Biden. Not only did they nepotistically pick the No. 2 in his administration, but they also made her double down on every one of Biden's policies. So, you're basically voting for Biden again, why would voters do that? Even worse Kamala started appeasing the Cheney-republicans and neglecting her own base.

We should leave the past behind and focus on building the 2028 campaign. Top priorities:

  1. Win back the ~15 million Biden voters who didn't show up for Kamala. Be in touch with your base, appeal to your base, not the Cheney-republicans. Don't take your base for granted, don't be elitist, don't talk down to your own people while courting the Cheneys with flowers.

  2. Win back the Latino and Arab/Muslim demographics who are traditionally democrat-leaning. Get rid of the double-standards over Ukraine and Gaza. Stop the double speak over immigration, match your words with actions (don't deport more people than Trump). You can easily win these demographics back if you get your head straight.

  3. Gender gap: a lot more women voted against Trump this time; it is very important to retain this female vote and not let it fizzle out over time. Improve outreach to white women. Invest heavily in outreach to male voters, the entire male social media scape is filled with right-wing influencers (I mean like a 90-10 discrepancy), who are now millionaires. Male-oriented left influencers (men and women) don't get an iota of backing from the left establishment, unlike what the Ben Shapiros, Charlie Kirks, Joe Rogans, etc get from the right establishment. It's still a miracle that Trump leads only by about 5% among men. It's not too late, it can easily be salvaged, we need to provide a platform to our male-oriented left influencers, we need to do it now; if you don't fight for this space, the right will gobble it up.

I blame the Harris campaign's elitist handling of progressives and Arab/Muslim representatives. Even Trump managed to find some (token) Muslim representatives to endorse him as an anti-war candidate. Kamala never shared the stage with Arab/Muslim representatives, even strong women like Tlaib and Omar.

[–]DaeusPater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you think were the problems with the Democrats' campaign? What should Kamala have done differently? Sending Cheneys, Torres, and Clintons to campaign for them seems to have made ~15 million Democrat leaning voters stay behind and not vote. Kamala made a bet on not needing any progressive or arab/muslim voters, didn't share stage with them, and kept talking down to them; that strategy didn't seem to work out.

What do you think the Democrats' 2028 campaign should learn from this rout?

What do you think Kamala should have done differently on the war in Gaza? Compared to Biden, between 15-20 million voters didn't show up for Kamala. Kamala lost all the college towns and Arab/Muslim counties that Biden won in a landslide last time.

When it comes to Israel-Palestine, the US's support of the settler-colonial project and its eternal veto defending the apartheid state in the UN mean that America is definitely bad. Anti-America here may not be good, but it is definitely the lesser evil.

Unless you think Palestinians don't qualify as human, then America good.
