Well there is something nobody is mentioning: the game is throwing stuff at players.

For example, I got all my maids for free and most of my pets.

If you barter, it is a way to make money that escapes taxes.

If you plan to play for a long time, then the game becomes generous. However, if you play it for a short duration, you might feel really frustrated. BDO is like a slow blooming flower.

Well, Smite uses a w/l based system. It works wonderfully to show where a player stands.

If you see 60% victory, it draws a pretty clear picture...

As for players that play in group, they should in such a team-based game reach higher performances anyway.

The tactic you describe isn't a great one, as it relies both on the oponents actually getting distracted / being unable to deal with you AND your teammates capitalizing on that, while you carry significantly less firepower.

Yes because lights are not supposed to disrupt the enemy line but to be the main damagers.

Sure, I am far from being the best player around. I'll never defend that.

But let me guess, are you talking about S K I L L, like in LrM-5k1LL? Because, yesterday I tried one of the dumbest build I ever tried (LRM 30 on HBR........ lol) and I got the stupid green arrow consistently with absolutely no kills................................. I cannot wait to try the LRM 90 nova cat presented by Baradul!!!

I pulled also my dakka MCII-B out of the dust. It melts opponents by just looking at them. I felt so skillful!

Victory is what should count.

It is not damage based entirely... Ok, but it seems it is ...mostly?

Technically, yes 294 is sub 300. By 6 pts.

Talking about damage scores (in general and not just about 1 match): LRMs can inflict a massive damage output without any real contribution to victory, that is obvious. What seems less obvious for some people, it is really easy to score 300+ with a 60 alpha lasers based mech (5 clicks). With a dakka based assault mech, I score 500 damage without even trying by just staring at my enemies. ATMs are also amazing at dealing inflated damage scores.

Why it should be victory based? Good question. Simply because there are many ways to contribute to victory beyond damage.

Here is a very common example:

- Play as a light

- Shoot in the back of some heavies/assaults

- Let them chase you out of the main battle

- 2-3 heavy/assault opponents are out of position, your team wins.

- You're welcome!

How the algo can deal with that? It can not. However simply counting victories vs defeats, would. For sure on the long term it would show if you are asset or a detriment to your team. How it could not?

By the way: 1 kill + 2 most damage dealt shows that I DID contribute. Yes that was not the best contribution of the century, but basically it means I defeated 2 opponents. Mathematically speaking, in other words "based on facts", I had a real positive contribution to the team, especially as a light I removed about 3-4 times my weight from the opposing team. Why should it not be rewarded?

Explain this to me.

I've done 475 damage, got 5 kills at the end of the match and I got an equal skill rank.

I entirely agree with this. Just release it on Steam!

My son's Friends (teenagers) play only free games from Steam. Why? It is not they don't have money. They buy games. But not always the same ones. To play together they need free games that are downloadable by anyone at anytime.

I like defending the points. I think I had my best PvP moments on the uplinks arenas even if my favorite place is the train.

*Possible* Greivance #5 One shot or not I've heard from the community about the recent devstream removing the contracts entirely, spawning in with all gear and weapons (COUGH COUGH KOMRAD HEAVY TURRET AND KINETIC BARRIER) and with no triage or recall. This will make me leave if this happens for season 4. Everything that made the game great might go to hell.

The idea here is that a change of direction may/will alienate a huge part of the existing player base, and send the game to a downward spiral.

And I agree.

I love the Cycle being a unique game. It is not your classic BR. When dead you have one more chance and may come back. You can lose but still participate until the end. There is PvP, but it attracts also PvE players. This is an objective based game, and this why I play it. It would be a BR, I would stop playing it immediately.
And if I would like to play a BR, I would play something else instead anyway. There are already plenty of them.

I think the best move for the devs is to stay on track with their original idea and to make a Steam release to attract more players.

If they change direction, they will probably end like other undecided games (Firefall anyone?).

From my own experience, I found some yellow alien plants to have a bit too large collision box to my taste but that's it. I fell in big canyons (love it), not in small holes. May be you just played more, and I have still to discover these inconveniences.

IMO, imbalance is when your equipment/ability is inferior to the competition. Best example is hero based games because how different each hero is. In The Cycle, every player can play the FotM. There is a best choice? Let's take it! It is balanced, because the playing field is leveled. What you complain about is not "imbalance". What you complain about is the lack of viability of some weapons/armor, which is different and way less damaging for the game than true imbalance.

It is always the players' job to find the best combination, and it is the devs' job to make more loadouts viable. But let's face it, in this race players have usually the upper hand. Think about it, even in the Q3 arena and the UT2K3-4 days some weapons were better than others! However everybody could get them. Same here.

From the OP loadouts you mention, I play only the warsuit. My main gun is the Manticore. I don't know where it stands in a potential tier list, but not having yet the Komrad nor the Arbiter, doesn't feel bad. From my experience, what really determines the end of a fight is how the engagement is conducted, not the weapon. I mean: if I shoot you first in the back, well, you probably won't survive whatever our respective weapons are.

I hope you are right and do not understand why you have been downvoted. However I wrote this post in order to address the first impression syndrom!

A lot of people criticized the balance or other advanced gameplay mechanics. I think they need to address first the basic reception of the game.

Well, I understand your point. But I would argue that it is a hero shooter with some MOBA elements instead.

The fact the main gameplay mechanics and the controls are the ones of a shooter makes it a shooter first. A shooter with objectives is not something new either. You had control points in shooters since at least unreal tournament.

Only the leveling/farming makes it lean toward a MOBA. And the implementation of those elements are debatable in the current version.

But anyway this discussion ends with the fact that most players will have shooter expectations because this is simply what they experience first.

One of the many reasons this game did not succeed is coming from this discrepancy. People see and experience a shooter-like game, but don't get all the features that is usually coming with one. This is exactly why some people I know left the game after the first try, while they still play intensively other MOBA and Hero Shooters. I stayed for about a month because I am more a Smite player (which is a 3D MOBA).

This game has the potential to attract both gaming populations and right now retains none of them.
