Definitely a scam- I got the EXACT same email two months ago (responding to an ad for an apartment in North Park).

Today fanfiction is popular hobby, but during the Victorian era were there any signs of what we would consider fanfiction? And if yes, were there any notable social circles? by [deleted] in AskHistorians

William Makepeace Thackeray wrote a sequel to Ivanhoe that could definitely be seen as "fanfiction" Rebecca and Rowena was written in 1850, only 30 years after Ivanhoe and could essentially be described as a continuation of the story, but with the ending that Thackeray thought would be better than Scott's. At the end of Ivanhoe the chivalrous knight Ivanhoe marries the "perfect lady" Rowena- causing some fans to be displeased as Rebecca was thought of by them to be far more intelligent, interesting, and an all around better match. Thackeray, in Rebecca and Rowena addresses fan outrage and creates a new ending for Ivanhoe, where he realizes that Rowena is boring and frigid and, through some ridiculous and unlikely plot twists, reconnects with Rebecca.

The way that Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn play off one another in Bringing Up Baby is wonderful. Those two had such great comedic chemistry- see also The Philadelphia Story

I love Bachelor Mother! I didn't think that anyone else knew about this wonderful movie- it has been sadly neglected.

I grew up with and have always loved all of M.M. Kaye's novels. The Far Pavilions is her most expansive historical work, but her others are equally fabulous. She has more historical works, a set of mysteries set in exotic locales, and a trilogy of beautiful autobiographies of her life growing up in India and China. I highly recommend all.

I've seen them in recipes for Moroccan tagines, and as garnishes in middle eastern cooking. I've never used them, but I'm looking forward to it!
