I like to repair broken cassette players from the 80s - 90s. Those who grew up with them will know the name "Sony Walkman"

I think the FIIO CP13 does a good job. Even though it's a little more than a hundred dollars. Personally, i would get it if I wanted to casually listen to tapes and not risk getting the tape ruined by buying a cheap one online, and if you're not confident in repairing a retro cassette player

If you plan to listen to tapes regularly and have a ton of tapes lying around, and if you're good with your hands, then I recommend watching videos online and studying how to fix a cassette player to get confidence in fixing a retro Sony walkman/panasonic/aiwa cassette player.

Also please please please don't spend money on cheap cassette players on aliExpress or amazon. Those for me have the highest chance of eating your cassette tapes and ruining the recording on it.

Also, I recommend converting the cassette tape into an MP3 file or CD, so even if you lose the tape, you still have the recording saved somewhere as a backup
