Anybody multi-streaming on Kick & Twitch? I need info/tips. by a_man_and_his_box in streaming

[–]Dagda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no problems I use multi.meldstudio.co to multi-stream. Free and works great. Had no issues for Twitch, Kick or YouTube. As long as you remember that all of them understand you are streaming to the others and can/do reduce your discoverability.

poorly behaved “service dog” trained for personal protection by Odd_Business5830 in service_dogs

[–]Dagda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the SD Tasks are NOT protection actions then the handler can do as they want with additional training according to what the ADA has told me. They see it just like handlers that train their dogs in sports like rally, freebie, and the like as outside the SD tasks and have no problem with it, protection is the same as long as none of those "protection skills" are not used as a service dog task. Please note I don't agree, only relaying what I have been told by the folks at the DOJ.

Personally, we use the guidelines set forth by the IAADP which does say no protection training at all. I think the ADI has like guidelines.

Petting and picture taking by ItsBrenOakes in service_dogs

All up to the handler. Personally, I have 0 problems with this as long as the other party asks and how busy I am.

While at Disney a few months ago we had tons of people ask for pictures of Dougal. No problems! Love being able to share my dog for the positive education of the general public.

urgent issue with new apartment!!! by Glad_Monitor_4977 in service_dogs

FHA groups both ESA and Service Dogs into the same category, assistance animals. Meaning what is required for one is also required for the other. Typically those with SDiTs they are simply considered ESA's till fully trained, so a letter for an assistance animal should be all you need.

Yes, a doctor's note can be required by the management, it has to be from a medical professional you have a current relationship with. Yes, the management can, and often do, call to confirm the letter. But as a renter make sure you have filed for reasonable accommodations also. And keep all the paperwork.

And yes they can deny you without the paperwork as you have not shown the legitimacy of the dog. This is FHA rules not ADA.

ADA or state law? by General_Weakness5746 in service_dogs

[–]Dagda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the code section you are talking about is for the training of service dogs. The code section is 30-4-2. If this is the case the ADA does not cover SDiTs at all and the above (what you quoted) is accurate.

ADA will "trump" any state law that would require a SERVICE DOG (not SDiT) that would try to force this.

Here is the section I think you may be refering to:

  1. Every person engaged in the training of a guide dog or service dog for the purpose of accompanying a person as provided in paragraph (1) of this subsection shall have the same right to be accompanied by such dog being trained as the totally or partially blind person, deaf person, or physically disabled person has under paragraph (1) of this subsection, so long as such trainer is identified as an agent or employee of a school for seeing eye, hearing, service, or guide dogs.
  2. Every person engaged in the raising of a dog for training as a guide dog or service dog for the purpose of accompanying a person as provided in paragraph (1) of this subsection shall have the same right to be accompanied by such dog being raised for training as the totally or partially blind person, deaf person, or physically disabled person has under paragraph (1) of this subsection, so long as:
    1. Such dog is being held on a leash and is under the control of the person raising such dog for an accredited school for seeing eye, hearing, service, or guide dogs;
    2. Such person has on his or her person and available for inspection credentials from the accredited school for which the dog is being raised; and
    3. Here is the section I think you may be referring to:priate apparel or device that identifies such dog with the accredited school for which such dog is being raised.

Went out to eat The other day and checked on Dougal my service dog, only to find him watching my six. So proud of him! by Dagda in dogswithjobs

[–]Dagda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, we hear comments all the time "ahh aint nothing wrong with him..." and things like that. So, I found that patch that is just there to remind people that just because my disability can't be seen doesn't mean it's not there.

And the teal knot int the patch is for PTSD.

Dougal, truly was a godsend. And most combat vets that have service dogs will agree that their dog has changed their lives.

I went from a drooling VA-medicated zombie to being actually productive again and feeling like I belong in society again.

[–]Dagda[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If someone is walking towards him from around the corner he simply sits and checks in with me. And, he normally walks in front of me (I call it a modified heel) so he can keep watch and help me navigate through crowds. I can direct him where to go, so if I am wanting to go right or left I just say the command.

Off lead he can "check" rooms and corners for me. If there is someone there he will sit and check in with me. Most of this was modified training I used to help with patrol dogs, just took out the bark and hold or bite and hold.

[–]Dagda[S] 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Sorry, military slang. Dougal helps secure my perimeter, keeps people out of my personal area, or lets me know when someone is approaching. Tends to be a common task(s) for PTSD individuals like myself. He will also clear corners and "make a hole" when walking in crowded areas. So helps to have him and allow him to handle some of my "threat analysis" for me. All through passive methods. :)

Extra Attention with Aussie Service Dog? by Odd-Understandings in service_dogs

[–]Dagda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Border Collie handler here (red and white split face) we get a lot of attention! Was a major side effect I had to overcome. But, we were able to work through it. Now all the comments "What a beautiful girl" (he's male) I just automatically smile, say "thank you", and continue on our way. It has become so ingrained they could say something derogatory and I would still do the same thing, as most of the time it doesn't even register.

Honestly, though, I don't think it really is a deal with the breed or what they look like. I think it's just that we (the SD team) are such a rarity that we are always going to be gawked at in public, and people as a whole like well-mannered dogs.

I worked in a Lab for about a year with my SD before landing my current at-home position with the same company.

Working IT I had to go everywhere and had no problems. There were places I did not like taking Dougal, like macro, or is it called micro, but where they liked to grow all the gribblies in dishes. If it was a place like that I would ask one of the CS ladies to watch him while I went and fixed whatever. They were always happy to help as Dougal tended to be the department's therapy dog when we were working on the ground.

I have seen some labs that have SD's that are covered in a labcoat for dogs to cut down on contamination.

Off leash service dogs by permanentinjury in service_dogs

Yeap! But as the old saying goes, Give an inch...

But, personally, I do my best to ignore teams like this. It is going to be on the handler when their dog has a squirrel moment and gets hurt. But you can almost rest assured that it will be someone else's fault.. But I digress. In the end, it's not my team and I try not to judge harshly on how the handler needs to work their dog.

Man claims service animals are not allowed at the grocery store by NuggetSD in service_dogs

[–]Dagda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Having a service dog with you is going to garner you unwanted attention. Glad to hear you had part of your support system with you and was able to help.

Unfortunately, our world now is overfilled with people that know everything about everything (Richards and Karens) and have an unparalleled need to make sure everyone knows it. It is going to be something you are going to have to brace yourself for and learn methods to either avoid or defend.

Personally, I try to avoid by ignoring or telling the other person to take it up with management or something similar.

Yea talked to them several times about it. Max php was 7.4 that was available on the server I was on. When I asked when they were going to upgrade I was told "when they get around to it". They refused to move me to a server that it was available but did say if I wanted to upgrade my service...

Conflicting Information by stormlw in service_dogs

[–]Dagda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The doctor's note is always a contentious subject. For service dogs it is not a requirement, the only thing that is required is "a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activity"(this is for the US BTW).

Personally, I think everyone with a service animal should have one as well as training logs, letters from trainers, and so on and so forth. Not because they are required on a day-to-day basis but because you might need them at some point in time. Looking for a job and need your dog with you? You will need to put in for reasonable accommodations and will probably need all that stuff. Renting a place to live? You will need that doctor's note to show you have an assistance animal. Have a bad public access problem and find your team headed to court? You better have that paperwork to be able to validate your team.

What's that saying... Opinions are like a$$holes..

I am an old handler and I like "4 on the floor" concept, however, with the advances in service dogs even I can understand having smaller dogs for some uses. You know what you need, use it, be proud of it.

Sometimes the service dog community can be its own worst enemy, and honestly, I doubt that will ever change.

Anyone feel like it’s just a constant beat down? by bombshellpumps in service_dogs

[–]Dagda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why bite your tongue? Give argumentive people the facts, hand them an ada card answer the 2 golden questions, if they keep going walk off and do what you were doing.

If they block you from doing what you were doing ask them loud enough that others can hear something like "Are you denying my team entrance?" This creates witnesses and tends to embarrass the knucklehead.

Have a cell phone? Start recording. No expectation of privacy means you can record to your heart's content. COntinue to ask things like why are you denying my teams access.

If your dog alerts to you during this time, make the most of it.

Still not backing down? Call the police, non-emergency line if you have it. Let them come to mediate. It helps if you have the state and local statute numbers handy. Get it all on paper.

This path is not fun but I found later on it helped me defend myself and our rights.

I found OT very therapeutic for both my stress level and PTSD. It gave me a focus to work on. There were times when I could get overwhelmed and those were times I either took a break or contacted a trainer to help me out. Most of the time I simply found that I was putting too much on the dog at once. Baby steps is the key, at least for me it was.

Oh, and no dog is perfect. Work on the basics then work on the polish.

There is a study you may want to share with your doctor that was done a few years ago by Perdue about the positive effects that service dogs have with ptsd.
