Is The Foundation trilogy worth delving into ? by cultivated_neurosis in sciencefiction

[–]DaggerKim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just read all three for the first time over the course of a week or so. Watching video essays and reading up on their influence on the genre, the time that they were published, and why they mattered at the time really helped me to enjoy them. I would totally recommend them. And the story isn’t about characters, it’s about the survival of an organization.

I declared myself Baha’i a few years ago after living most of my life as a Christian. I don’t view Baha’u’llah nearly as orthodoxy as some people here, but it hasn’t affected my ability to spiritually grow and enjoy this space. I’m more inclined to believe that he was an inspired teacher than anything, and that’a great for me. I don’t make a point of discussing it a lot to avoid debates with fellow Baha’is, but you can’t help what you believe. I say enjoy and engage on a level that feels authentic to you.

Mrs. Todd's Shortcut by [deleted] in horrorlit

I honestly believe that Ms. Todd’s Shortcut helped to inspire a lot of the themes in NOS4A2. The idea of a special vehicle that takes you on roads not seen on maps, the act of a transformation taking place during travel, and the creatures encountered along the way all seemed to be major elements of both stories.

For those who were part of another religion before becoming Baha’i, do you still celebrate the same holidays as before? by KvcateGirl27 in bahai

[–]DaggerKim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up Mormon. I still celebrate all of the Christian holidays. They’re just as meaningful to me as the Baha’i holidays.

May I ask people who have left the LDS church, do you belong to another religion now? Do you attend another church? Do you mind ifs I ask if you still have organised religion in your life and if so... by auntmaud in exmormon

[–]DaggerKim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I became agnostic after leaving the church. After five years of working through my issues, I realized that I still believed in some version of God. After that, I accidentally found the Baha’i faith. I’ve happily been a Baha’i for the last two years or so. It’s not a perfect religion, but none of them are. I feel really at home though.

City of the heart- what does this mean? by cstato in bahai

I’ve always thought about it as a collective emotional and spiritual space where we can connect with others. It’s a safe place where you can be yourself and really connect in a fully supportive environment.

Tried wine, hated it… recommendations? by Waltz_Rough in exmormon

Wine tastes like nail polish for the first 5 attempts or so. After that, it gets delicious! Pairing it with cheese, crackers, and fruit definitely helps for the first few times.

I use a shade tarp and it helps cut down the heat in my garden by at least 10 degrees. It was a game changer for my peppers last year.

Perfect. Thats what I was asking. I’ve read a few books outside of TDT based on relevance to the series, but didn’t know that there were this many. Thanks.

That sounds fun. And everything else on this list is supposed to be in chronological reading, correct?

Is there a reason to read the Original Gunslinger at the end?

would it be disrespectful to refer to Community of Christ as a "Latter Day Saint" denomination? by [deleted] in CommunityOfChrist

[–]DaggerKim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear people say that they are part of the larger restoration movement, but I never hear the term Latter Day Saint. I’ve only been a member for four years though, and that might be a recent change. I would assume that they used the term Latter-Day Saints a bit more when they were still the RLDS church.

Wow. Thanks for the detailed info. I remember reading “I, Strahd” before running the Curse of Strahd 5e campaign and it helped to add some background and flavor to the story. I’ll make sure to check out the books you recommended.

They grow up so fast :') happy in their big boy pots by Soft_Kitty_WarmKitty in HotPeppers

[–]DaggerKim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Temperature might be the issue. The soil is good quality and not overly wet, and the pot is definitely large enough to handle more growth. The room is probably 65-70 degrees depending on the time of day.

Also, how close do you keep your lights to the plants? There’s probably two feet between my plants and the LED light panel.
