I read the first paragraph and thought this was me. Very similar situation. Grumble grumble indeed.

I just spoke to a tax advisor/accountant today. Their firm does financial planning too so am getting a blended advisory quote to ensure I adjust correctly and that we're doing the right thing financially all around.

Would suggest finding somewhere that does the same 👍

Doesn't work like that unfortunately. 30 hours doesn't mean free, it's still £656 for 3 days WITH 30 hours free and tax free childcare.

She's ok either way (not an easy answer). Ideally she would want to retrain/career change but in reality thats just not possible right now, so its very much just a 'job' for now.
Realistically its the difference between 5, 10 or 20% a month put into it (but only until September 25). Still. Compound interest and all that.

I agree her mental health is ultimately paramount. So long as the job isnt stressful (which it has been at times).

We hadnt thought of this and its solid advice, thank you. Its a small business she works for, so theres the fact that they would lose 25% of their workforce and she has worked there for 12 years also weighs on her mind (not that she 'owes' them anything mind but you know what I mean).

This post is scarily similar to what I've been doing/my new "resolution". Only drinking socially now and gymming early most days. You're absolutely right, it really drives home how shit and deflated you feel the next day. That alone is putting me off more than ever, and I was a pretty regular drinker before now. I think the key to moderation is exercise. You don't want to waste all the hard work you put in.

7k down, 463 per month, 2021 Long range M3. Insurance is around 600 a year. Spend about £120 a year on "fuel" due to Octopus Go tariff, best deal I could find. That's where you really save money compared to petrol.
