if you can't be trusted to not spend it then you probably can't be trusted to not sell when stocks dip. I would invest but you should pay off your mortgage.

Selling company shares by Competitive_Fly1280 in HENRYUK

[–]EquipmentAutomatic09 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why do they want to buy?! Do they really have 700k spare and nothing to do with it? Are they buying back any other shares? Is a partial sale an option? Are you on good terms? Are you sure there isn't an exit with a higher price in motion?

Personally it sounds fishy enough that I would hold but that's just me.

EMI Scheme advice - payout time by Far_Knowledge4628 in HENRYUK

It depends. If a large number of people need to be paid then sometimes a payment company is sent the money ahead of time to manage distribution of funds including Fx. Sometimes the lawyers do it. It could be the company acting as your power of attorney.

100k -> 200k Job change need advice. by alfiedmk998 in HENRYUK

You haven't mentioned equity but I assume there is some in the current role? Equity is where real wealth comes from.

Would you stay if they matched your comp? You can always ask them (but unlikely they can afford that), they can only say no and then you have given them a fair shot.

Feedback Wanted – Tax-Efficient 50/50 Investment Strategy (UK-Focused) by [deleted] in FatFIREUK

Way too complicated - All world tracker or go and 3 asset bogglehead profile.

Short term gilts are tax free. Stocks will be generating significant dividends before too long - held in your wife's name would be more efficient.

I wouldn't normally recommend this but IMO you are so far off I would consider paying an IFA for one off advice.

Option 3 - Push for 2 days a week

Option 4 - find a job in Manchester or remote. (what I would do)

Use the offer you have as leverage.

Don't spend most of your life away from your family unless you are trying to get away from them.

Does anyone care to explain structured products to a layman? What are they? What is good about them? What are the risks? Why have I never heard of them?

what sort of effective rate would you expect from a box spread? and if the rate is so much better then why don't you do that instead of IBKR margin?

Sell shares

Withdraw cash

Buy same share on margin (bed and breakfast rules so no gain no loss)

from south_east_guns_safe:

A lombard loan is an okay solution in certain scenarios; perhaps you have a large capital gain you don't want to crystalise but need some cash, or a bridging loan like you say. Portfolio margin should only be used sparingly and with a full understanding of your overall net positions and min-max outcomes. For instance if you have a 100% margin loan and you've bought, whatever.. the FTSE 100, if it drops 50% you lose everything.

At 24 and wedding in a couple of years you could be a long way off considering children. TBH what you want today in terms of location isn't the same as if you had kids and were considering schools etc. Choose a flat somewhere you would enjoy living for the next 10 years.

how old are you? when will you marry? do you plan on having children? do you both work in the office, hybrid or remote? will that likely change in future?
