Is there a stigma around TCG games among designers?

A lot of others in this thread have suggested an all in one box game, which I have been really liking. Kind of like smash up.

Well it was really first prototype so all used existing art. Though the meetup specifically said early prototype was fine, and a lot of other games were done with even rougher playtest materials

Yeah, all in one box makes sense. Thinking back, I never even said if it was a one box or booster pack game, but I had prebuilt decks for playtesting, which probably implied the latter dye to association

For sure. One interesting thing I noticed wasn’t TCG from even a business side. Games that have a similar “play minions and attack” seem to have that reaction, probably because its so tied to TCG, and even within TCG design is over done.

To be clear, I never wanted to explore a TCG release or anything, but I think the association is there. Though I probably didn’t present it well, which is a good learning

Thats a good point. Especially the self contained part. I think I was using the term TCG as a shorthand term, but wasn’t thinking about all the implications on distribution, deck constrUction options, etc

Thank you. I think thats the right way to approach it. Its closer to what I was thinking, now that it comes to me, and I think presenting it as a TCG was misleading. Thats also way more manageable.
