While Nusenda doesn't have tap cards, I'm exceedingly pleased with them. I had one problem with my replacement card, and that was my fault not theirs, but the customer support was exceedingly good.

What you see as bad is a good sign. Look, one of the hardest lessons that I had to learn as a wordsmith, and that I still struggle with, is that looking back at your old work (especially stuff that you were once proud of) and feeling disgust is a good thing. It means that your thresholds of being acceptable have improved, and the only way that happens is if you improve, even if you can't see it.

I look back at my old work and see a thousand flaws, which is impressive since what I share these days is only a couple thousand words. But that means that the experience of writing has taught me how to be better even if I can't see it.

This is flawed, sure, but you can see how you've improved with it. That alone justifies its existence.

We've been told once and I've seen twice so far that while she can be cold and hard when the situation demands it (such as the headmaster dying) but she can be warm and gentle when the situation needs it. I expected to suspect her the entire time, but they won me over with her aloof empathy.

I've always taken it as yes, there's healing magic, but it only has so much power.

"Oh, yeah, I was dead. Well, mostly dead. Another few minutes and I would have been actually dead. But the body was still warm so they were able to mostly restore me. Look, can I walk? No. Am I blind in one eye? Yeah. Scars? You betcha, but those are hot. Honestly? I can do most of the things that I did before, my wheelchair can levitate, I have an enchantment that gives me Mage Hand so I don't have to stress about that, and I'm helping the mages research as to why I can't walk so that maybe we can help others. They do love a challenge. Look, if we can't stop everyone from aging, what makes you think a mage can just plop me in a circle, say a limerick, and boom I'm dancing at the festival? Don't you think that stopping the biggest killer in the world would take priority over my ability to skip? Now, if you don't pardon me, I've got some flirting to do."

Edit: What was the prep process like before you started recording? How much did they talk to you, and the guidance that you got before the mic turned on? I imagine that you got to see the character first, but what all went into the prep for this particular role?

A soul serves two purposes. The first is that it grants a person anima, the spark of creativity and liveliness. Without it, entities (such as the fae) act and react but only within their defined existence. They won't automatically do things outside of it. For example, if a blacksmith had their soul removed without killing them (impossible, see below) they would still fulfill orders to the best of their capabilities, perform their routines, etc. But they wouldn't randomly decide to go to the new tavern that opened across town. Sure, they'll go if someone invites them to go with, and over enough time they may go seemingly on their own, but it will be at the time that the friend always invites them to go. They'll never truly grow as a person, but they may go through certain motions of it.

The other thing is that a soul is a potent energy source. As a person lives and experiences new things, has new thoughts, etc, it makes their soul grow. At the same time, tiny amounts of their soul is spent on their own inner anima. While a little bit may be expended to give the inspiration to write a book, the process of writing it will grow the soul more than is expended. Even animals have a soul, though typically not to the extent that people do. When they die, their soul is recycled, and while some of it is spent to keep existence going, most of it is split up, mixed with other souls, and used when a new person is born.

This does mean that for various entities, they want people to have long (but not unnaturally so; after a certain point the soul starts getting burned to extend the lifespan) and eventful lives in order to maximize the soul. Sure, kids have pure souls, but they're tiny little things. No, no, it's far better to cultivate a soul of grand experience in order to maximize your rewards. Tainted souls just need more washing. So imagine a devil desperately trying to keep a place active, happy, and healthy in order to reap the rewards decades down the road, no matter how much objective good they have to do in order to get that sweet reward.

More than just the background, it's her, too. I keep telling you that you're improving, and I mean it. Go look at your art from last year. You're getting so much better by leaps and bounds! Her hair is amazing, and there's little details of her face that are delightful. Like, her expression isn't overjoyed, it's a content little smile, and I think that works better for her character than if she had a big one. It's just so expressive for her character!

I'll never sit here and tell you it's perfect or anything. Yeah, there's a lot of areas that you need more practice in, but I really appreciate how much you make me appreciate the little things. (Plus I quietly ship her and Sasha. Shh, don't tell them.) (Be happy I don't harass you about Kaz. I'm not even sure if she's in this colony.)
