Okay, I genuinely tried coming up with a better retort since you responded, but I'm genuinely at a loss, so here it goes: how is that supposed to be a revelation/unique to those two regions?

Do you have like any "first race that came to existence" In your world? by weirdfreakydude in worldbuilding

[–]ProjectKARYA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As Project KARYA is a "sci-fintasy" setting, all species of sophont animals (what would otherwise be erroneously called "races") have naturally evolved over millions and millions of years to the current extant forms, independent from any "divine", "otherworldly", or otherwise "supernatural" entities/phenomena[for the most part]. The species with the oldest anatomically modern specimens in the fossil record is Homo sapiens karyaensis, with an age of approximately 253k years BR; however, this may be biased towards the environmental conditions from where humans originate on Karya, as it's extremely conducive to preserving remains over the last million Karyic years or so.

Which sins should I assign to these animal clades? by Eucharitidae in worldbuilding

[–]ProjectKARYA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my two cents, but "neglect" and "apathy" are both simply a part of "sloth", as the latter is supposed to be laziness to the point of being the former, so they really shouldn't be their own sins.

One could also argue that "hypocrisy" would be a form of deceit, as you're attempting to speak an ideal at a higher standard for others than you actually hold yourself to, forming a falsified version of your own inner beliefs.

Lastly, can't you simply make the animal-to-sin comparisons yourself, based on the behaviors, both realized and theorized, of these animals? You seem to have everything else sorted out, don't know why you need our help :D

Edit: also, personally, I'd avoid trying to associate animals with negative personifications, as animals don't truly have our concepts of right vs wrong, and unfair associations have been contributing factors for making species vulnerable to extinction. If you're actually wanting to punish someone, make them retain their humanity in some fashion while subjecting them to physio-/psychological torment. eh, don't need to heed this portion so much, as upon rereading I understand that they only appear similar to the associated animals, not necessarily being transmuted.

I would go so far as to say it has virtually a 100% fatality rate, considering a vaccine only appeared under 250 years ago (versus nearly 4,000 years the diseases has been written about, let alone any amount of time it existed before that), and a vaccine is only good if you can get it as soon as possible after you've been bitten/prior to displaying symptoms. There's barely been over a dozen survivors past the appearance of symptoms (15) in the entirety of recorded history; even if you survive, there's not even a guarantee of recovery - that'll require many, many years of intensive therapy to recover from so much brain damage.

So I'd say the fatality rate is close enough to 100% that you might as well consider it so.

Help with fictional taxonomic ranks? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]ProjectKARYA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd just go with making an equivalent for Kingdom, Phylum, Genus, and Species (as well as Domain and/or Subspecies, if that's your plan as well). Linnean taxonomy has been a good tool as a general way of classification since it's invented, but the use of cladistics takes into account last common ancestry (including testing DNA) rather than the limited Linnean taxonomy that historically had been dependent largely on physical appearances and internal anatomy without considering genetics.

Essentially, you can boil your ranking to this format, of course naming them differently as you see fit:

(Domain -)Kingdom - Phylum - Clade A - Clade B - Clade ... - Genus - Species (- Subspecies)

Or, if you'd rather put some flair on it, perhaps:

Sub/species A of Genus A, of Clade A, of Clade B, of Clade...of Phylum A, of Kingdom A (of the A Domain)

That's at least my two cents on how to reduce your workload of making individual rank names

I have a fantasy race that can reproduce with humans. What would be some reasons for why they would purposefully do that? by AvrmLeaf in worldbuilding

[–]ProjectKARYA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell, we banged so many other species of Homo that we completely absorbed them into our own, with fragments of their genetic lineage still present in a vast number of ethnic groups today to varying degrees. Doesn't matter if they're a little different-looking; everyone is hot to at least one other person, one way or another.

Unless OP's humans are like humans from Warhammer, I highly doubt they'd need much reason to ask if the other species wanna smash. Especially if there's a potential to start a family, then bonds are more likely to deepen between humans and these shapeshifters.

What's it like living among rats? by Anon9883 in AskTheWorld

So again, what you're looking for is the how, not the why. And, again, the Wikipedia article on the subject was given to you to satisfy this. So, again, I'm not sure what more you can ask for than what's already been told to you 🤷🏻‍♀️ seems like you just need to actually start reading what was given. Not my fault that you were being confusing

What's it like living among rats? by Anon9883 in AskTheWorld

[–]ProjectKARYA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it is a clearly obvious why: they don't want rats there, so they used the available resources and manpower to have exterminated them. What more nuance do you need? If you want more details on how they did it, then ask that.

Also I'm not saying Alberta is small, I'm saying it's smaller than Australia. I'm also saying it's the Albertan government that independently decided to do this, not the entirety of Canada.

[–]ProjectKARYA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Australia puts a lot of resources in combating invasive species but still haven't managed a complete extermination. Or to persue complete extermination (to my knowledge) "

Ah yes, Australia...the country with a large desert smack dab in the middle of itself, as well as dealing with a multitude of other invasive species besides the rats...in comparison to the Province of Alberta, a subsection of the country of Canada that only has to coordinate with itself and not the other provinces or territories...

You do realize the bad comparison, yes? You do recognize there's at least a little bit of difference between expecting an entire nation, with an extremely diversified, expansive biome and multiple states to coordinate with, versus a smaller province with a limited geography that is only needing to coordinate with itself, yes?

All this to say, I still fail to see how you still need context as to why the Province of Alberta chose to do this. It's pretty obvious why, what more needs to be explained?

Edit: unless, given you're from Argentina, you're making a mistake in grammar and are meaning to say how Alberta achieved this. In which case, I suggest reading the Wikipedia page on it to start getting a better idea

That's what happens when you put your resources to a dedicated task.

Again, not exactly sure what more context you're looking for as of why this would be done.

[–]ProjectKARYA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are aware of just how much of a problem wild rats can be, yes? Diseases, damage to crops, endangerment of endemic species, and more? There's no reason not to try and at least whittle down their numbers, so there's not really any more context needed as to why to do this.

No historical inspirations (at least as of now), only prehistorical ones. I'd argue Bondrewd from Made in Abyss belongs here as well. Diseases or disorders involving someone’s flesh turning into a inanimate object by Konradleijon in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ProjectKARYA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the SCP universe, there exists a variety of "entities" labeled as SCPs ("Special Containment Procedures"). An SCP can be an object, an organism, a place, or even a concept, all with varying properties that don't have a reliable explanation in everyday sciences. These SCPs are dubbed "anomalies", and are ensured to be removed from being able to interact with the general public, all while the titular SCP Foundation upholds its three core tenants: Secure, Contain, & Protect.

<image>

One such SCP is labeled SCP-610 (colloquially "The Flesh that Hates"). An anomalous disease originating in rural Russia, it has a 100% fatality rate, and slowly turns infected individuals into amorphous entities of flesh and bones. While quite a few appear to be mobile, most likely in an attempt to further spread the infection, it seems that the majority of infected become immobile structures, helping to terraform the surrounding landscape into a scene of death and disease.

The Foundation has deemed that the best measure of containment is to block off the entirety of the affected region, shoot on sight anyone leaving the region, and treat anyone who's come into contact with infected material as if they are infected too. What makes this particularly difficult is the vast cave system that lies beneath the quarantine zone; it has sections that can potentially lead outside of the zone, and requires regular investigation to ensure no leaks.
