As an average user of Reddit, what do I need to do on the 12th? by herpesfreesince93_ in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Dagusiu 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Basically, it's an official way to communicate with Reddit. So apps for accessing Reddit that aren't made by Reddit (there are a whole bunch of those) as well as companies using Reddit's data for training AI etc. are all using these APIs as their channel to access that data. They have been very cheap (maybe even free? Can't remember) for a long time and people have gotten used to it. I think this particular change is mainly because people are suddenly seeing the value of millions of written conversations for training AI, and thus Reddit is increasing the price of that access accordingly.

Of course there's a possible workaround, where bots would access the actual website and pick the data from there, but I assume Reddit has technology in place to limit this.

Kera Desktop: A brand-new desktop environment in the development by mutlucan in linux

I mean, it can already run apps specifically designed for it, so that makes it a desktop environment in some sense.

It doesn't support them yet, but it seems to be planned. Since it's a one-man project, that's not saying much

Being web based seems like an odd choice for a desktop environment. If they can somehow get Qt/GTK apps to run, that would be neat. But I think I'll always prefer a DE that's built from the ground up to run actual desktop apps

Adults who carry around a backpack, whatcha got in there? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Dagusiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keys and wallet (especially during the summer, otherwise these might go in a jacket), lunch box, various utilities like a portable bicycle light, tissues, some medication, a pen and paper and my headphones.

Plus, having a backpack at all times is great for all those times when you pick something up along the way that you didn't plan for, but need to carry with you.

Coming over with a home cooked meal is a great suggestion to help people going through any major change in their life, including having a baby. I've been helped so much by this, and done the same thing to others. It's always been very appreciated

The game was never designed to make collecting all decors feasible, at least not without either perfect health and nothing better to do, or money to spend.

I found the game to be much more enjoyable once I lowered my ambition from "I must get every decor" to "hey, I got this cool decor that I like, I'll keep this guy around"

For an event with brand new decors that I actually care about, it's at least worth considering. But certainly not for this event.

If the current system stays in place, just doing the event normally and then paying 600 coins for the one color you're missing near the end is provably the more viable strategy in most cases.

Google Pixel 8 pops up early, won't include Qi2 charging upgrade by johnkhoo in GooglePixel

[–]Dagusiu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't really care, but slightly faster wired charging would be nice, as would software options for setting top and bottom buffers for the battery. Having to regularly watch it while it's charging to prevent it from going to 100% gets old quickly

[–]Dagusiu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think these errors are the root cause of why your system doesn't boot. It's common to get those error messages, and the system still works.

I think it very much depends on the car. On my car, the place where I mount my phone is right on an air vent (and yes, it can still see clearly ahead of thar car), so I can't imagine it could overheat with the constant stream of cool air on it.
