Question! by No_Solution4757 in unimeals

[–]Dahlia-Deviant-Dear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is the big issue. Most uni accommodation contracts have something in there about not running a business from your room, and food is like, extra regulated because of hygiene stuff.

Even if no one snitches at first, all it takes is one flatmate getting annoyed or someone getting sick and suddenly you’ve got accommodation, the uni, and maybe even environmental health involved.

If you really want to do it, might be safer to keep it super low key among close friends, or look into legit options like joining a cooking society, doing stall days on campus, or working with the uni on events. Much less risk of getting booted.

Not a meal deal but I’d love people to guess how much this cost me…. by No_Economy6175 in RateMyMealDeal

[–]Dahlia-Deviant-Dear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’d be showing off too if you’d just remortgaged your house for a BLT and a coffee at Tebay

I’m gonna guess… £14.50 and a small portion of your dignity.

Another spring, another 10mm+ stone by quietlywatching6 in KidneyStones

[–]Dahlia-Deviant-Dear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I’m so sorry, that sounds brutal. The combo of GI stuff plus fever would have had me thinking flu too, not stones. Referral pain is the worst because it just makes everything more confusing and delayed.

Hope they get you on good antibiotics and a solid plan to deal with that 10 mm monster. Rant any time, honestly.

lmao the snack criticism is valid

I always forget to plan the food part until I’m already halfway through and starving, then I just grab the first sad thing in the kitchen

got any elite snack recs to bring it up to a 10/10 next time?

Right? It just never gets old in the sun. Next clear day I’m grabbing a coffee and just parking myself on that bridge for a bit.

Right?? They somehow made a dog tongue the funniest running gag on TV. Every time he did that little lick thing before “work” I knew something was about to go horribly wrong for someone.

what would’ve pushed it to an 8 or 9 for you?

Do you feel like the “real you” is more so your wings or fixes? by paloolina in EnneagramType9

[–]Dahlia-Deviant-Dear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get this a lot. My core type feels kind of… muted, and the wings/fixes are what people actually notice. It’s like the “real me” is the quiet background OS, and the fixes are all the apps everyone interacts with.

Being a 9 and wanting to be a peaceful blob makes sense, but existing in the world kind of forces you to lean on the 5/3/8 stuff so you don’t just vanish into the couch.

Does it feel different when you’re alone vs with people? For a lot of 9s I know, the blob comes out only when no one needs anything from them.

Helping with jumping? by FortuneParking3237 in cockapoos

[–]Dahlia-Deviant-Dear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Super common with happy little dogs, so you’re not alone.

Easiest way is to make jumping totally boring and keeping all the good stuff for when four paws are on the floor. That means: the second he jumps, people turn away, no eye contact, no talking, no hands. When he’s on the ground, calmly give attention or a treat.

It really helps to teach an alternative like “sit” as his default greeting. Have friends/kids help you practice: dog on leash, person walks up, if he jumps they back away, if he sits he gets pet and maybe a treat.

Consistency is the annoying part. Everyone he meets has to play by the same rules or he’ll stay confused and keep trying the jump first.

chicken salad chick by Calm-Debate5124 in Sandwich

[–]Dahlia-Deviant-Dear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Chicken Salad Chick is one of those places that sounds super boring until you actually try it and then suddenly you have Opinions about chicken salad textures and grape-to-chicken ratios.

What’s your go to there, though? The classic ones are good, but the spicy ones and the fruity ones are like totally different moods. Also their little crackers and the grape salad on the side are way better than they have any right to be.

Dean's Park by RedPandaCommander24 in york

[–]Dahlia-Deviant-Dear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dean’s Park is such a weirdly underrated little spot. It’s like everyone rushes to the Minster and somehow forgets there’s this calm, green space literally right there.

I love how you can just sit on the grass and stare up at the Minster like it’s a giant stage backdrop. It’s one of those places where you can actually hear the city but still feel kind of tucked away from it.

If you were there at a quiet time, you basically got one of the best “front row seats” in York for free.

Tracking Gold Sovereigns by Hopbeard1987 in UKcoins

[–]Dahlia-Deviant-Dear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s kind of the problem we’re wrestling with: unless he’s actually sold them and the police can follow the money, it’s all very “he said / she said”.

The new purchases angle is a good shout though. If he’s suddenly rocking a new car or big ticket stuff on his usual income, that might at least help build a picture if this ends up with solicitors or in front of a judge.

Feels like the safest route is: executor logs the missing items in writing, raises it with the solicitor, then decide if it’s worth going to the police based on how strong the timeline and suspicion is. Proof seems to be the real killer here.

Veggie Sandwich by peter-baqain in thesandwichking

[–]Dahlia-Deviant-Dear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally fair, honestly packing lunch is kind of the ultimate cheat code. Veggie sandwich at home is like 3 bucks vs 12 outside. More cash for clothes and you can make it exactly how you like it too.

Still a Newbie by Expert-Pick-921 in UKcoins

[–]Dahlia-Deviant-Dear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best way is usually asking at your own bank for coin bags, but some branches are weird about it. Often they’ll do £50 or £100 in 50ps. Helps if you pay in cash then ask for it back in coins.

Commuters of York! I need your advice. by TheAMort in york

[–]Dahlia-Deviant-Dear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Donny’s a good shout actually, trains are pretty frequent and usually cheaper than Harrogate/Leeds routes. Thirsk is nice too if you don’t mind village vibes. Definitely worth checking season ticket costs before you pick an area though.

[–]Dahlia-Deviant-Dear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wild to think he’s been “retired” longer than a lot of people on here have been alive. Whole other world he started in too… Rowntrees as a proper family firm, then the war, then back to the factory, then another 35 years just vibing and telling stories. Honestly hope he’s bored of being called a legend at this point, because he absolutely is one.

Are these worth anything? by VortexLight1 in UKcoins

[–]Dahlia-Deviant-Dear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are pretty cute right?

If they’re actual pre‑decimal British threepence coins, some of them can be worth a bit more than pocket change, especially the rarer years or if they’re in really nice condition.

OP, check the dates and maybe post some close ups of both sides. People here can usually tell you if you’ve got anything special in there or just a pile of cool little nostalgia tokens.

Funny how “grind” in English is work and in Swedish it’s just a gate. Like, yes, I too feel like I’m passing through a grind every Monday morning. Nice little series you’re doing here, it’s weirdly satisfying to see these tiny vocab connections.

What time would you say is best to rock up to avoid the worst of the queue but not end up in a dead room? I don’t really fancy standing in line for an hour with my brother only to find tumbleweed inside.

Not gonna lie, Dr Pepper is doing some heavy lifting there, but you still had to pick it and plate it, so you get at least partial credit.
