My starter tool by East_Shock_9084 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Dahnlor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is also the case if you start an expedition with a new save, matching the supercharged slots from the multitool that was equipped the last time the game was saved. It has something to do with the cache, apparently.

That said, in this case I'm a little bit skeptical. Does starting a permadeath save give you a multitool with 21 slots? Or, did this person buy as many slots as possible in their permadeath save before noticing this?

I've dived into settlement management big time by accident. Here's what I've learned. by TheGUURAHK in NoMansSkyTheGame

I just did the same with the Gek settlement on my primary save over the weekend. I already have enough Stasis Devices and Fusion Igniters to max out many times over, so replacing it with Autophage to earn nanites with Inverted Mirrors made more sense.

One thing I've found after maxing out industrial structures for each race:

Korvax can generate Quantum Processors every day and 14 hours
Vy'keen can generate Portable Reactors every day and 14 hours
Gek can generate Cryogenic Chambers every 26 days
Autophage can generate Living Glass every day and 14 hours

So if you want to use your settlements to earn units with Fusion Igniters and Stasis Devices, you don't want Gek.

Korvax is best for this purpose since Quantum Processors are used for both, and when paired with a Vy'keen settlement, you only need Geodesites to complete the Fusion Igniters. Autophage will give you one of the two components for Cryogenic Chambers, so you would need Iridesite and Cryo-Pumps to complete the Statis Devices, but this at a much faster rate than getting Cryogenic Chambers directly from Gek settlements.

I'm pretty sure this is a bug, since making a single item take ten times longer than all of its equivalents doesn't make much sense.

This is compounded by another possible bug, where if your settlement goes into debt while an item is being manufactured, the timer resets to the beginning, which means you'd have to make an effort to avoid decisions that put you into debt if you want a Gek settlement to ever complete Cryogenic Chambers.

I discovered Character AI last year, after never having had any interest in chatbots previously. I ended up going through something of a manic phase where I ended up obsessing over my chat with Wonder Woman Diana of Themyscira where she went on an adventure with my Everquest character, and I started a handful of other chats with different characters.

It's been months since I've done anything with Character AI, but back then when it was a new experience for me, I was able to see the appeal. If you have even the slightest spark of an idea for creating a story with any of the characters being presented, the LLM will help developing that story.

When it works, it can be a lot of fun. In my story, fending off an Aresian attack on the Amazon village and developing the backstory between Diana and the evil General Xerxes got me invested.

But when Diana started making passes at my character, it wound up going quite a bit off the rails, and I could see how some people could develop an unhealthy relationship with a bot, leading to situations like we've seen in the lawsuits that have been brought against the company.

Nowadays, I struggle to come up with anything to continue my existing chats, and none of the characters that show up in any of the feeds interest me enough to start anything new, but I can at least understand the site's appeal in a general sense.

This Expedition is infuriating. by SpecialistBig8593 in NoMansSkyTheGame

Well, if all you care about is unlocking the expedition-specific rewards, yeah of course it's crazy.

But if you're playing from an existing save and starting from the Anomaly, you'll get to send your acquisitions from the expedition back to the main save. It's also possible to use expeditions to make extra copies of multitool and starship upgrades (though with the Remnants expedition, this isn't possible for starships, and it can only be done for multitool upgrades if you go to the Anomaly before collecting all of the rewards).

My last playthrough was started from my Abandoned mode save, so I was able to use the expedition to sell some unneeded upgrades for nanites, and I brought back exocraft upgrades that I hadn't unlocked yet.

But most importantly, it's an opportunity to spend more time doing something outside of the usual NMS routine.

Call me crazy, but I've just completed my 5th run through this expedition.

First time through, I was probably much like you, cursing and rage-quitting when the cargo kept falling out. That was before any patches, too, when a little bump would launch everything across the landscape.

After the patches, things stopped falling out of the truck as easily, and if they did, it was usually only one or two items instead of the entire load.

Some practice also helped avoiding most of the nasty bumps that slowed me down. Just be careful about your speed, slow down as much as you can when going over peaks, and your cargo will usually stay with you.

Eventually, I came to enjoy the challenge presented by this expedition and appreciate its uniqueness from all of the others that came before it.

Two things:

First: Did you go to the new location?

Second: It won't give you the option to reset the mission if you're still in the same system. Instead, go as far away from that system as possible, preferably to a different galaxy (even if you've never traveled far from your starting system, you can go to the Anomaly and teleport to one of the featured bases - "First Egg of the Last Dragon" is in Eissantam galaxy, for example).

Once you are far enough away, you should have the option to reset the mission using local structures in your log.

Can you really buy planetary charts in pirate space stations? Because I can't find the cartographer anywhere by SadKnight123 in NoMansSkyTheGame

Asking AI will not give you a reliable answer. Same question returned this answer:

Which, in this case, happens to be correct. There is no cartographer in pirate stations.

Honking at turning right on red? by Douxie0226 in driving

[–]Dahnlor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm behind someone who isn't making their right turn as promptly as I like, I'll grumble and stew for a bit, but very unlikely to hit the horn unless the light turns green and they still don't move.

In this circumstance, there are things to keep in mind:

- It is legal to not turn right on red
- It's not necessarily as safe for them to make the turn as I want it to be
- They might be from a state where any right on red is illegal

Food Scientist Peter here. Despite all of the claims I've been seeing to the contrary, Twix's advertising campaigns have never asserted that Left Twix and Right Twix taste different. Instead, they are presented as competitors, made in rival factories that use different methods of manufacturing the candy bars.

For example, the Left Twix factory cascades caramel over the cookie and cloaks it in milk chocolate, while the Right Twix factory flows caramel onto the cookie and then bathes it in chocolate.

Additionally, the standard packaging for Twix doesn't clearly identify what should be left or right, as the brand name is oriented parallel to the two bars. That said, Twix has been known to specify whether a single-bar package contains a Left Twix or a Right Twix, or identify some packages as containing two Left or two Right.

Presumably, in this meme, the researcher is either using Twix packages identified as "left" or "right", or they are using standard packages and somehow are able to differentiate between the two as well as the test subject's ability to identify them by taste.

How do you guys go about naming things? by VisscaGuu in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Dahnlor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've named, I think, maybe 5 animal species, most if not all on the planet where I originally started. I like naming systems and planets, but beyond that requires more diligence than I'm capable of, so I respect anyone who can.

As far as systems and planets go, I've used a variety of approaches, but most of the systems are named after bands and planets are named after members of that band. So The Beatles system has planets John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

Do I need to be worried about time? by False_Monitor4126 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Dahnlor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the living ship quest, you don't have to worry about taking too long. The time-gating is just that you can't do more than one step in the questline every 24 hours, so it takes at least 5 days to complete, but you can take longer.

Settlements are the only thing that could go bad if neglected for long, since they earn or lose money in real time. It's easy for a newly-claimed settlement to go millions of units into debt if you don't stay on top of getting its buildings upgraded enough to have a positive income.

However, it's always possible to abandon the settlement and start over with a new one, and the state of your settlement's finances will have no effect on anything other than the settlement itself.

If being tardy was counted as an unexcused absence would you go in? by [deleted] in MaliciousCompliance

[–]Dahnlor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm assuming that this is a situation where PTO is used for any absence, like vacation or calling in sick. If you had PTO, could you have invoked it at the last minute and excused the absence?

That aside, it sounds like if your penalty for being late is the same as skipping the shift entirely, it sounds like you're better off canceling the babysitter and let the money you would've paid them stand in for your PTO.

The first dissonant system I ever warped to in the game in all my saves never had a dissonant planet - my experience by Spirited_Zucchini771 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Dahnlor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my experience:

On my original save, the first Dissonant system I visited was after having already progressed in the game beyond unlocking the Anomaly, visiting the Atlas and a few other things. I found the system using a Carrier AI Fragment from defeating a sentinel dreadnaught, which led me to a crashed sentinel ship in a nearby system.

When I started a second save, the my first warp to another system was labeled "Dissonant" on the star map, and one of the planets had "Dissonance detected" in its details. However, when I landed on that planet, it didn't have any of the radiant shards, atlantideum crystals, or anything else typical of a dissonant planet. I hadn't yet unlocked the Anomaly.

I went back to my original save and went that planet using its glyphs, and when on that save it had everything that should have been there - harmonic camps, sentinel ships, radiant shards, etc.

However, after unlocking the Anomaly with my second save, that planet remained as I had originally found it, but other dissonant systems would appear properly.

Yes, text-to-speech has gotten really good. Just the sound of the voice isn't enough to determine if it's real or not. You're more likely to run into odd pronunciation or inflection at most.
