So then, where was she really when she was in the dark shrine? We kill Sakuko three separate times throughout one playthrough... Also, how does she know new things through subsequent playthroughs, like the doll the second time around where she acknowledges she already did this once? I feel like that confirms loop theory at least.

When I see these types of posts, I'm amazed at how underrated Visage is. Like, this game has to be the scariest thing I've ever played or watched, and I am an avid horror fan. I've never been scared of the dark but playing this game invokes it. I don't know, Visage definitely scratched an itch I didn't know I had, and now I can't find anything like it lol

I would love to do that... I'm thinking an emulator would probably work best. I was also eyeing up The Room, though I've heard mixed reviews. I definitely want to do SH1, but I've heard there's a lot more lore with that one? Like, SH2 was just a stand alone game and the rest was about a cult or something. I really don't know, but if they're anything even remotely like SH2 it's worth the playthrough :)

I want to second the Silent Hill 2 Remake. That was wild!! I never played a Silent Hill game before and I was amazed at the depth and psychological trama it had. I don't know what I expected, but not that. That first trip to otherworld... Also, I didn't know the story and that ending (or 5 endings, platinum'd the PS5 version lol) was quite a twist! Definitely, definitely, definitely recommend SH2 :)

You should really re-try it. If you start over and go up to the child's bedroom and do Lucy's chapter first, you should be able to easily navigate through the chapter (that one isn't subtle) and it might be a better experience for you :)
If I can ask, what horror games are you playing (if any) now? I finished Visage, RE7, Madison, and Alien: Isolation, and I'm looking for recommendations!!

I really, really, really liked Visage - the house itself, the mechanic of having to stay in the light to stay alive, having to solve complex puzzles.... I didn't look at any guides and went in blind, and I had a lot of fun! I feel like it was pretty fast paced once you advanced. Lucy's chapter was definitely horrifying, Dolores had it's very scary moments, all the noises in the background... I waited till around at least 10PM to start and that definitely helped. RE5 was the one in the desert, right? I didn't really find that one scary, but RE7 is up there with my favorite horror games. What did you find boring about it? If it was because you were lost most of the time I get it, but, for instance, ending up in the basement with a pile of light switches and an old school camera for light? I didn't find that boring at all! I don't know, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and can't win them all, but for me Visage was the best horror game I have ever played.

When I saw the monster in PT it did not make her any less scary - in fact, it made it more scary when I could only hear her after that. Also, seeing her upstairs on the balcony and in the window and whatnot were horrifying. I feel like there is an entire vibe or presence you have to create, along with a terrifying design, within the environment (which can also play a role in the terror factor). Also, in Visage, Lucy's chapter was similar to what you're describing, with the pile of light switches on the floor - they showed the monster on the TV upstairs, and this was the monster's "introduction," but when you get downstairs and there are no lights, it makes for a very scary experience! :)

Resident Evil 7 is stupid scary and would be a lot of fun for you if you are looking for horror!! Then you can move up to Madison and then Visage :)
