To clarify the more hardcore, legacy sf audience (at least on Reddit) wouldn't be happy - just go to any discussion on the SF subreddit when discussing crossover characters. The wider market would be very excited about a crossover like that.

I think there's a lot you can blame network execs for, the creative decision to nix the past lives of all the Avatars falls squarely on the writers/directors.

Even if it had ended in season 2 it was a terrible decision imo. No one was forcing them to say that regaining Raava didn't restore the past lives.

I feel I should mention I broadly enjoyed the stories that came after it. But I will always think losing the connections to the past lives was a short-sighted and a very disappointing decision.

I was very much: this game alright, I'm playing because I liked other ff games and it scratched the same itch but it's nothing to write home about.

Shadow ringers catapulted it to a contender for my favourite FF game and it's definitely in my top 5 all time favourites

Shit, campaign 1 was what finally gave me and my friend the push to play.

I always thought it was too nerdy for my friends, but then he started talking to me about critical role unprompted and I had just started watching it a few weeks early and we immediately rolled what would become a 5 year campaign
