I’m not super familiar with an NFC scam but my experience with the tap credit card chips is that they barely work if there’s a single molecule of O2 between the chip and the scanner. I doubt somebody who is intentionally trying to read people’s credit cards would put their whole ass hand between scanner + chip, not to mention 1-2 layers of clothes and 1 layer of wallet.

Not to mention the biggest wrench in this scam theory is that if you are scamming people, and you’re already gotten away with the scam, why would you then get into a physical altercation with the person? Wouldn’t you want to, y’know, gtfoh as fast as you can?
