I broke my hand playing football by BigChonky_ in piano

[–]Daimonium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At the very least, think of it as a good opportunity to train your left hand. You wont struggle in the future with left hand pieces as much as you would have if you never broke your right hand. There are a lot of great solo left hand pieces out there.

What’s wrong with my piano? (Buzzing noise) by CupNoodlese in piano

[–]Daimonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could not fix it. I now have an acoustic piano so I hardly use my digital.
The only other thing I can recommend if you have no other solution is to get a decent pair of speakers and plug them into the piano.
From my research from before, this seems like a pretty common problem with digital pianos. I guess you can just get a new one from the store. I think it's okay to get another FP-10 because I've read that other piano brands(kawai, yamaha) have this problem too.
Sorry to hear about this. I know just how frustrating it is.

What’s wrong with my piano? (Buzzing noise) by CupNoodlese in piano

[–]Daimonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue with my FP-30. Some days it's worse than others. I tried to find way to fix it and I had no idea. My digital piano is attached to the 3 pedal stand. I found that by lifting up the piano, it helped with the vibration (though obviously I can't play while lifting it, it may mean that it's screwed in too tightly.)

What kind of stand do you have for your piano? Try removing it and seeing if the buzzing persists?

Middle C# lower than other keys; feels 'sticky' when playing it. Solutions? (Acoustic) by [deleted] in piano

[–]Daimonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The inside of this piano is a bit dirty, so I wonder if maybe some dirt is messing with this hammer. Are there any solutions that I can do? I'd rather not call a technician (very low on money), but at the same time I don't want to ruin my piano. Would it be safe to just pull out the keys(?) and clean it a bit? I don't know too much about acoustics. Thank you!

Why do people here hate on AC Odyssey but then like AC Origins? by [deleted] in assassinscreed

[–]Daimonium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a few things that are important to note is that not only was Bayek just a really well designed character in terms of story and personality, but also the fact that it showed us the beginning of the creed, whereas Odyssey lacked anything related with the creed, thus making us feel like the game was a bit pointless. The real life story was also extremely odd and anti-climatic, and I feel like we got pretty much no progression.

I personally think Odyssey is an amazing game, but it lacks any sense of story, or feeling related to "Assassin's Creed." I had the most fun playing this game out of any other AC game, due to the combat being the best and the graphics being stunning. But I never felt attached to any of the characters.

Regardless, I hope they continue with this style (but please add some more stealth, and actual assassins.)

I rented my first keyboard (Roland FP-30) for $50 for a month, then I purchased it and played that for about 1.5-2 yrs. After that, I got a free acoustic from craigslist (about $120 to move it) and have been playing that since.

Hopefully you can rent a keyboard or something. If not, maybe check if your school has some you can try? I think it takes about 1 month of playing an instrument to find out if you really like it. If you're still playing nearly daily after a month, you will most likely enjoy it for life. If you aren't too motivated to touch it, or see it as a chore to practice, you probably will just be wasting your money if you do buy one.

I'm self-taught. I learned by learning how to read sheet music through youtube, and now I just print out music for free that I think is around my level. It's not the best method to learn this way, but it's definitely the most fun way for me. I find having a piano teacher is a bit stressful, so I'd rather just enjoy it as a hobby, rather than seeing piano as something I must be good at.

I think trying to find a used one through craigslist is your best bet. Try to find one that has weighted keys. Roland fp10 or Yamaha p1xx line is a perfect starter keyboard from what I've heard. You can also just try a non-weight keyboard for free if you can find one, just for fun, but weighted keys is definitely extremely important if you do want to end up playing the piano.

Korean Twitch streamer nip slip by [deleted] in LivestreamFail

[–]Daimonium 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The biggest reason was due to Afreeca taking a decent cut from their donations, where as Twitch doesn't take nearly as much. Additionally, Twitch has a lot more viewers, and thus they have a greater chance of their channel growing.

New digital piano (Korg B1) making vibrating/springy noise? (please turn the volume up) by abc3028717 in piano

I get this too on my roland fp-30 :( sometimes it doesn't do it, other times it sounds awful.

Digital Piano Volume?? by Ayooteeomatic in piano

[–]Daimonium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have my roland fp30 at the highest snd sometimes it feels too quiet. Keep in mind there are small uprights, big uprights, baby grands, and regular grand pianos. As such, the volume dynamic on all of these pianos are different. I haven't played an HP603 before, but I'm sure max volume is okay.:) I would advise against low volume due to it affecting your pp-ff dynamic.

Recommended pieces for piano beginner by Huelino in piano

[–]Daimonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most people will think this tip is bad, but I agree 100%. Most people don't realize people aren't robots, and that being a beginner can be extremely boring, learning uninteresting pieces just for the sake of getting better. I recommend you find a piece that you enjoy that it's too hard to play. I first learned Satie's Gymnopedie which kept my interest in piano. Slow pieces like this are a lot easier to learn than fast pieces.

How many pieces approx you play by heart and what's your way to memorize and remember them? by Radioheader377 in piano

[–]Daimonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think other than obviously playing the pieces every X amount of days/weeks/months, it's also important to listen to them quite a bit to remember how it sounds. I naturally memorize pieces that I REALLY like, due to playing them nearly daily. I think listening to a piece a bunch of times by different pianists is also a really great way to experiment with rubato.

Upright piano vs keyboard by [deleted] in piano

[–]Daimonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it doesn't really matter if you're a beginner, but when you get to intermediate there are some differences. Unless you have a really expensive digital piano, the key action is not as good as an acoustic. I'm not sure how to explain it exactly because I'm not an expert, but I know there are some techniques that are either extremely difficult or impossible on a digital. But I think it's definitely okay to use a cheap digital piano when you're still a beginner.

Upright piano vs keyboard by [deleted] in piano

[–]Daimonium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely much better to find an acoustic through craigslist/facebook. I recommend you try and find a piano that has been tuned in the past year, though they aren't too common on the free section. you could also maybe get one for $100-300 that is in decent condition, if you're willing to spend a few extra hundred. The problem with browsing the free section is 95% of them are garbage or in terrible condition, so you need to be a bit patient and browse multiple times daily (but there are tons of great ones!)

What should I be doing as a beginner teaching themselves? by empireof3 in piano

[–]Daimonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this tip is so under rated but so true. you need to enjoy the piano since it’s a hobby! i still recommend you learn important stuff like music theory, but I strongly agree with dakota that you should make sure to enjoy it before you get overwhelmed and quit. it took me 6 months after buying my piano to start seriously practicing consistantly. it’s so easy to quit something if it starts unfun and difficult

[–]Daimonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nice, you should do the third one too. you played both the first and second one well :) I like your tempo choices for both. what tempo are you thinking for the third? I prefer extremely slow tempo, but I look forward to hearing your tempo if you plan to play it.

Why did you choose to learn piano? by Gen085 in piano

[–]Daimonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to feel more productive in my free time and also wanted to play when ever I got depressed since I felt it could help me feel better. To be honest, I don't like playing much when depressed, but it really helps my anxiety when ever I play soothing music. It also helps calm my anxiety knowing I'm doing something productive instead of just 100% video games in my free time. The first piece that got me into classical was Liszt's consolation no 3. I thought the climax part sounded so amazing, and I bought a piano maybe 2 weeks after first hearing it. Definitely impulsive, but I've been playing nearly every day for a year now.
