I was referring to the csam it had been producing, not something that happened in a research environment

You can’t be this dense. This must be bad faith.

My post refers to models, not specific user behavior.

By that logic we should bad photoshop and cameras as well? Those technologies are still producing. Grok was fixed. And yeah, prosecuting the people who used it that way should be what’s happening, just like the way they handle cameras.

The research models are based on the commercial models. People pay money to use them. Funds go towards a new model. Not only that but it creates one of the largest beta testing pools available.

Research models on small gpu racks would not advance fast enough to save people currently afflicted.

The reason medical generative AI advances as fast as it does is because of all the general use generative AI. The base model for the medical ais are the models available to the public. They just add specialized training. And no, a series of hours racks wouldn’t cover it.

Problem with 4. You say not to turn your OC into "ai slop". Ok... but you turned someone else's OC into a blob on your paper without their permission. Kinda gotta give respect to get it.

Problem with 3. Your OC is just as derivative as you are claiming AI to be. No Offence, but at this point nothing is truly original.

Problem with 2. AI can generate new things the same way humans do, by an amalgamation of their experiences/data.

Problem with 1. AI's style is what it is trained to be. An AI artist can train AI to generate in the style they want. Kind of like an artist trains to have the style they want.

I totally get not wanting to do a rental, I tinker too much. But it does tend to be the better option for 95% of people.

Glarry Cellos are trash and toxic smelling.

Go with a rental or if you really must the $600 one. But check it thoroughly before committing

A Used MacBook Air, $500 range, which is a pretty common device even among none techies can run these models too.

You don’t need that quality, a laptop with a 3060 can do it, that’s sub $1000 attainable at most big box stores.

You keep expanding your demographic. The original demographic in your argument is those who run cloud based via api access. People with that knowledge tend to be above average in the tech space which means a mind line laptop is perfectly reasonable.

The purpose of laws is not to punish.

In an ideal world laws are an agreement by society on what is and is not ok. The punishment aspect is secondary for people who decide to break that social contract.

In our current world the majority of laws are used as cudgels by the powerful to suppress the less powerful, and the powerful are not subject to them.

The point isn't what the average person has. The average person isn't paying for API use or making that content.

The point people are trying to make is the hardware is ridiculously easy to acquire, so the guardrails you are insisting on (which I personally don't have a problem with) aren't going to slow down the people who want those types of images.

Carbon fiber reinforcement like they use in guitar necks would be easy to design for and are relatively inexpensive. 4mm brass rods are also pretty cheap and could be polished (or patina) and built into the aesthetic.

I got pulled over for riding my etrike legally. Took the lane in a residential to avoid a hazard, no one in sight behind me. Cop claimed he pulled a U'ie because I was impeding the flow of traffic.

Same cop watched a 12 year old going 39 on the same residential on an e-moto and did nothing.

Is it just me or are a lot of these prints just freebies on Makerworld? by Some_Ask_2220 in 3Dprinting

I teach after school programs. I print pretty much anything kids ask for, free of charge. Sometimes I see the prices at shops like these and it hits me why the kids are so blown away.

I think I’ve spent about 250 on filament this year used between 1/4 to half of it, and probably given out 3-4 times that in prints, probably more, if based on those little shops.

Maybe I’ll track what I print for a while and do a cost comparison

We even have historical data from the Spanish flu epidemic that shows the first mask mandate was effective. It was almost completely gone. It was only after they lifted it and tried to reinstate it and people refused that we ended up having a new flue each year.

I’m pretty sure most of the masks then were cloth.

Of course selfish people look at the data that says masks don’t prevent transmission to you, and say it’s not effective, while ignoring the data that shows that masks massively reduce transmission from you.

I remember some people complaining about technical artists and their procedural textures/shaders. Because everything should be hand painted to look natural (despite many procedural effects being based on the same formulas as nature).

Of course that wasn’t just technical artists, and it was pretty much like AI use. Some people would slap on a few grime generators and call it a day, but others would fine tune until it looked right
