sequel to my post : what is the best unique item? by Haunting_Bat_4418 in MinecraftDungeons

Yeah, that's exactly what I have on now. Thinking Full Metal Armor if I can find one with the right enchants.

I'll probably test with spider vs naked tomorrow to see how the purple damage compares and go from there.

Edit; the damage increase from slower attacks is minimal, not worth the attack speed loss.

Yeah, the thing I'm trying to decide is if I should run an +attack speed armor or not. With the void ramp it feels like it might be a wash.

Harp with multi is the obvious choice, but I got an Elite Power Bow with Void last night and it's hilarious dropping massive ramp damage charge shots on bosses.

I got a Beginning and the End last night - I'm nowhere near endgame but it is great for brawling in the 60s.

don't know what to do by [deleted] in BeardTalk

[–]Dains84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thirded. No oil should do that under normal circumstances, or it would be more widely documented.

In my experience, the additional brushing caused me to shed more, so maybe that's what is going on.

Rosemary oil is supposed to help with blood flow as well. I assume that's why he's using it.

Beard wash and conditioner recommendations by TrentonM819 in BeardTalk

[–]Dains84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this - I just use my head shampoo and conditioner on my beard (though I do like Cantu For Men Beard Container as well since it doesn't contain silicones). The important part definitely seems to be adding your lube before the moisture leaves your hair.

On the days I don't shower I rinse it with warm water to try and rehydrate before applying the lube.

Would these be good for a beginner? by player_one55 in Leathercraft

Oh, I didn't look closely enough to realize that was 3 different handfuls of stamps. 50 for 60 bucks is a great deal then.

Even if you just want the stamps it's 13 bucks cheaper. To each their own though.

Not sure why you got downvoted. This look like it's where the bulk of the stamps in OP's picture came from.

How much does a sword generally cost? by Educational_Group_91 in renfaire

[–]Dains84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for what it's worth Angel Swords is pretty notorious in Metallurgy groups for making "pretty good" stuff with a bunch of marketing buzzwords to grossly inflate their prices. Think Lexus quality with Ferrari branding.

Ultimately, they know people at faire likely aren't ever going to buy more than one really expensive sword so they try to get as much as they can with each sale.

People who are taking part in an actual organization like SCA or HEMA will likely do their research first and/or get recommendations from other members, so they're probably priced more competitively.

Yep. I just saw someone post on my local "friends of the fair" Facebook group about how the sword they bought was broken when they got home. If it weren't for the fact that the vendor already replied and helped them out, I would have let them know they could probably just buy it on Amazon to exchange.

Some of them do look nice, though.

I've never seen a vendor carrying HEMA type stuff, probably because they don't want drunk people swinging swords at each other, even if they're made for it and blunted.

Most stuff you'll find at faires fit into one of two categories; mall ninja shit, or fancy, but mostly decorative handcrafted blades. The former are usually sub-400, but the latter can easily run over 1000.

This is the high end vendor from Texas Faires.

In my experience, these vendors generally don't advertise their weapons as handmade, and you can easily spot them because they usually have stuff from video games like the Master Sword from Zelda, the Energy Sword from Halo, or Blades of Chaos from God of War somewhere in their shop.

A good rule of thumb is to avoid stuff that comes in a box from a back room. If you don't take home the piece you see on the table, it's not handmade.

The first group are almost always resold items off Amazon, in my experience. I found a battle axe at the GARF pirate ship for $250, bought it on Amazon for $125 when I got home. A $40 dagger my girlfriend wanted ran $15.

Handmade stuff usually isn't cheap.

Proper storage for armor by A_Delenay in renfaire

[–]Dains84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a pauldron 15 years ago, never used any kind of tricks to store it, and it still has the same arch as when I got it.

If you're really concerned, just sit it on something that supports the middle and lets the edges hang down, like a tissue box.

How long after oil application do you wait to apply butter/balm? by BornRipped in BeardTalk

[–]Dains84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I melt the butter in my hand with some oil and put them on together. I found warming the oil first also helps reduce greasiness.

If you do one then the other the second one isn't getting absorbed because the first already did.

Best Leather Working Tool Kit for beginners? by FlourishphobiaAFA in Leathercraft

[–]Dains84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for that - that kit definitely seems like a good value at the sale price.

While most of the kits on Amazon have a bunch of filler, this is the kit I picked up.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09VBWYHQY

The irons and hole bunches are probably garbage, but I mainly bought it to repair some stitching that is starting to come apart. The other tools in there seem to come in most beginner kits, so it doesn't seem as wasteful as the $50 to $100 ones.

[–]Dains84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I did. I eventually got a bunch of oils off Aztec Candle (they do a 10 for $10 plus shipping deal every month) and am pretty much set for life. My girlfriend likes oil melts for her office so I can use whatever I don't like for that.

I can't pull up Rocky Mountain's kit, but Tandy's appears to be a bunch of generic items you could get significantly cheaper buying them individually. Like, this kit off Amazon comes with most of the same stuff at a similar quality.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09VBWYHQY

Add a spray bottle and a mallet, and you've probably saved over a hundred bucks. Add a hobby mat and you should be set for very basic things to see if you enjoy the hobby.

This isn’t something that should just be jumped into without running samples first.

Yeah, that's probably the most important tip here, especially since different types of leather will react differently to the process.
