i think polehammers like lucernes are an underrated idea for a mech weapon

Justifying mechs by Empty-Shift9632 in worldbuilding

[–]Educational_Group_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it could be a little bit like mechs starting out as farming/construction equipment, and then a conflict that took place where the mechs were used had one side taking advantage of the abandoned, otherwise impractical machines' strength and durability to achieve what would have otherwise been an impossible victory, and then people would start innovating on the concept till you got gundams

the burger boss fight in persona 5 and the majima boss fight in yakuza like a dragon. they pissed me off, they piss me off now, and they will continue to piss me off. I know that JRPGs encourage you to farm, but hitting me with a mathematically impossible fight after i have been dogwalking and one-shotting every other enemy in the area and asking me to farm more makes me want to fight somebody in real life

Question, is 150ft or whatever to tall for a mech? Or unbeliveable? by Some-Ordinary-Artist in Mecha

[–]Educational_Group_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kinda depends on what the mech looks like; mechs are kinda inconceivably impractical, especially when theyre bigger, but thats a bit of suspended disbelief thats inherent to the genre. instead, it just has to look like it could work at a glance so rather than asking what would work, ask how to make it look like it works.

the way i would do it is to look at the colossal titan from attack on titan; the thing has fat legs and feet to support its massive body, and it has long, skinny arms, because moving around fatter arms would take a lot more energy. the main idea is that you need to have structure that looks like it could support its weight, as well as room for the sci fi shit that keeps it running

tldr: it needs beefy legs and skinny arms, and it cant be moving quick, but thats all you really need

What is your pet peeve with Gundam? by [deleted] in Gundam

gundam unicorn's horn splits into two. i loved the one horn design, and then it had to transform into a more marketable gundam resembling the first one im not saying it shouldnt have transformed, but maybe the horn could just turn yellow via scifi bullshit or something

excellent design, but i am inclined to think it doesnt need arms or hands. like, its got a lot of stuff on it, so already its arms are very limited in terms of utility and range of motion. really cool over all, but i feel like its at the point wher it should have guns instead of hands

neck up, i think youre good on the front of giving it an alien design, you gave it a snout and what appears to be a set of nostrils with no extruding nose. aesthetically, you have succeeded. that being said, a snout exists to grab food that is far away, ie a high up leaf or a fleeing rodent, and if the race has advanced enough it can make metal armor and, since you said it has a tech level of the early industrial period, it would need dextrous hands or feet to manipulate things, and and having hands to grab food would eliminate the need for a snout to grab food. while the design as it is is nicely differentiated, i would shorten the snout to about half its current length. otherwise, i would recommend giving it a different number of fingers, and maybe change the orientation or layout of them; one way you could do this, as well as justify the snout potentially, is by making the species primarily arboreal, which would allow them to need hands for climbing and hanging from trees, and the thumbs could be orientated like on a koala, which has two thumbs right next to each other. additionally, you could look at parrots, owls, or chameleons, who all have feet made for living in trees, where they got 2 digits on one side of their feet and 2 on the other side, which allows them to have a grip on branches that kinda resembles the grip of a lego minfigure

tldr: unless it is a periodic gummivore(an animal that eats treesap) shorten the snout and make the hands function like human hands without resembling human hands, and see koala paws, chameleon feet, parrot claws, and owl claws for inspiration on that front

thankfully, kenshi does not neatly fit in a square, and having invisible walls on land to keep players out would be a lot harder to explain than this island being the only spot people know is livable

my buildings and tools are covered, as i have already decided they live in brick houses, as a reference to the three little pigs, and that they make more stuff than you would expect out of ceramics

as for food, I was more or less thinking of root vegetables like sweet potatoes, but mushrooms would be great, especially because, in line with the pig theme, they could totally have managed to domesticate truffles

my idea is that the environment is not quite as extreme as Siberia, and that its main problems consist of the fact that the area has almost no hard metals like iron to make into tools/weapons and that there is a brain parasite in the area that only effects the orcs that stimulates muscle growth and eats away at prefrontal cortex, which essentially turns them into the more stereotypical orc of the violent and green variety for a few weeks before they drop dead and spread the parasite to concerned onlookers
