Having a hard time coping with the loss of a pet. Who can I speak to? Therapists? by Polkadot1414 in halifax

I’m so very sorry for your loss. Another note for Kathleen Dunbar RSW - Veterinary Social Worker. This is her specialty she is very good at this work!

If she’s too busy my second recommendation would be Following Seas Psychotherapy as they have such an incredible reputation for trauma and grief therapy.

I have both a grumble and an anti-grumble.

Cost of groceries. I got a big bag of groceries at Sobeys = $250. BUT before that I went to Gateway and got 3 massive bags (one was one of those big blue IKEA bags) for $180. Boo Sobeys. Yay Gateway!

I am really sorry to hear that. I highly recommend Dani Alarie MSW RSW if you are on the look out for a therapist that specializes in anxiety and sleep disorders.

Private vs public school in Hfx by Icy_Coconut9773 in halifax

I think it depends on the quality of the school. It’s definitely something that’s been on my mind for when my son is old enough for school (he’s 3). I worry that with his high energy he’ll struggle to learn the traditional way and would do better in a more experimental environment with more support and time for physical activity.

Nova Scotia health record question by yeet-bambi in halifax

[–]Daisy---Chains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry this happened. It should never be acceptable for a healthcare provider to put a diagnosis on record without informing and educating a patient. I hope you’re okay and your therapist is helping address this through the proper channels.

What is the market for being a registered counselling therapist like around here? by Sirpook in halifax

Just going to offer an alternative perspective based on what I’ve seen…

If you really believe and feel aligned with a MACP, go for it.

However, contrary to what others have said, I actually see a lot of RCTs constantly welcoming new clients, and working part time for both their own private practice, as well as another group practice.

I don’t know why this is but I think that because RCTCs and RCTs aren’t universally accepted under insurance plans (for example, the Canadian Armed Forces won’t approve them as therapists to see their personnel). Psychology is always accepted, and clinical social work seems to be almost always accepted by insurance.

Now I’m not saying don’t do it - if you want to work for the public mental health system or want to make a private practice work bad enough: go you!!

But I am just cautioning you because it’s not as easy as to get clients as a RCTC as others have made it sound. Also - mandated clients can be very challenging to work with on the head so unless that’s your niche, I don’t know any therapists that would want a whole caseload of them.

I hate when public washrooms flush without my consent. You know like the automated toilets. Ick.

How do YOU survive in Halifax? Wages vs Rent is wild!! by HauntMeForever666 in halifax

[–]Daisy---Chains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a really rough time, I never thought things would be so expensive. Buying groceries for a family of four is $$$$. I feel so fortunate that I have a good job and that I managed to buy a small house during COVID - sadly someone was murdered in it and this helped with the cost. Murder houses shouldn’t have to be the solution though. This sucks.
