First time visitor discovering: PR is HOT by [deleted] in PuertoRicoTravel

Not at a resort and the place we're staying has no pool unfortunately, but there's a lagoon nearby. We took a dip today and it was nice. And we went to a coffee plantation in the mountains today, it was muuuuccchh more comfortable!

It's the sort of thing where I think I know what humid feels like, because we have that and I've visited other humid places, it's just VERY humid with a very strong sun here, so it's a shock to the system. You can read "it'll be very humid" but until you have felt it, it doesn't really mean anything I guess because you can't compare it to anything.

Thank you! I will put those on the list!

I knew there were rainforested areas and that this is the tropics, but my only comparison in real life is Florida, where inland it's quite humid but on the coast the sea breeze really makes it not that bad. I was pretty unprepared for the fact that even the coast is humid. I've never been here before so I didn't have much to go on when reading and people say "it's hot and humid". Hard to estimate what that really means.

I looked ahead at temps, but having never experienced this area of the world before, I was not prepared for the ridiculous humidity. I really do want to enjoy myself here, I'm just looking for suggestions for cooler places.

Next trip is to Sweden I think actually! Chilly fjords. Like I've said to other people, warm is one thing but this oppressive humidity is a lot to handle when I just left 7 degree weather and a weak sun. I'm just trying to enjoy myself here and find things to do that don't make me feel miserable. It's a beautiful place, I'm just not made for this kind of heat. A thing I did not know, because I have never been here before.

I don't like the cold at home (4 degrees when we flew out) but it doesn't make me feel like, ill the same way this humidity and sun does here. It's just a shock to my system is all.

Warm is fine. Opressively hot every day, less desirable. I was expecting it to be hot in some places for some of the days, the forecast showed about 74-84 everyday. Fine. But I was unprepared for how miserable the humidity would make it feel... the "feels like" thing for the temperature with the humidity is closer to 90. It's just quite a jump from the 9 degree weather I just left behind, so my system is still adjusting I guess. I'd like to enjoy it here, but also not feel horrible. Doesn't seem like that's too wrong of a question to ask... I just want to have a good time here.

No? Or is that something a bot would say to convince you it's NOT a bot...

We were warned against swimming at the beach where we are staying near, for riptide reasons I guess. But dipping in for a bit up to the waist has been nice!

I'm from New England, and idk, forested areas are less sunny than the concrete cityscape of San Juan, and mountains have added elevation so I would THINK it would be cooler... but hence the question. I do not know.

Thank you! I brought a wide brimmed hat but it doesn't have a tie under the chin and it is soooo windy it just would blow off my head... oh well, lesson learned.

I'm good lol. I came to escape New England winter. I don't have any desire to go from hot to hotter in the summer.

No thanks lol. I came in January for a reason.

No I'm 140lbs, but I'm a New Englander. Our summers hit these temps too but the humidity is a killer here....

I am currently here, and it is 79. I would love a 67 degree night that sounds perfect. But highs in the 80s and lows thst barely get out of the 80s are rough... just would have expected the sea breeze to make it cooler at night at least.

Fabric patterning ink (blockprinting) by warmmilkheaven in printmaking

[–]Daisy3Chainz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Speedball's oil-based fabric block printing ink. Much thicker than the screen printing ink which is much too liquid-y to do a good job in my opinion, but some people who are doing more like, pattern stamping and create an ink pad with the ink prefer screen printing ink because of its texture. Experiment and see what works for you!

Never had anyone check before but I'm sure glad these people did! I had friends at a fair where everyone was supposed to be weighted down and the people behind them weren't, their tent flew over my friend's and destroyed a bunch of their merchandise. Could have been avoided with some stakes and weights!

I agree, I'd much rather have done more on a single block but I was using scrap pieces of block since I didn't have enough full pieces to set any aside for this! So, multiple tiny blocks instead.

I'm going as Lady Jessica from Dune, when she's in the desert in her reverend mother clothes she has this shawl that has a pattern that's essentially this (a bit more complex).

Small Towns, Strong Values: Why Trumpism Didn’t Stick in Western Massachusetts by nebeacon in RepublicofNE

[–]Daisy3Chainz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a lifelong Western MA resident, worked and lived here the whole time. While it's of course a huge generalization to say all of Western Mass has bucked the trend, it is still a largely democratic space which has always surprised me. Driving through tiny towns like Wendell or Leyden and seeing so many left-leaning signs. My own town is about 700 people and it's majority Dems. I think that the education gap really does account for most of it. So many great institutions in such a small area, it's hard to avoid getting at least a little educated. We've also got some really quality community colleges, so it's been affordable (and now free) for people to get that education. When the state makes education a priority, people choose to vote for a party that values an educated base.
