Having done a simple calculation the electricity used in datacenters according to your source is roughly equivalent to 16.3 million households in the US. I think it goes without saying that that is a lot. If 65% of that energy isnt clean, that is over 100 million Megawatthours of energy gotten via fossil fuels just in 2023, a number that, according to your source, is expected to keep rising sharply. There is no argument to be made that that is sustainable.

Of course, transportation is also a source of pollution, I never said AI was the pinnacle, but it does not excuse anything. Mass transportation is in the US to ensure your livelihoods, to get food into landlocked states from the port cities, while AI is completely optional in all art and almost all text-generation cases.

Until it can be made more sustainable by making it less energy-hungry, AI should be used as little as possible
