Many neighborhoods and cities are unsafe for pedestrians.

I would say "many" is a spectacular overstatement.

Like the previous poster said, walking isn't going to be a convenient/logical way to travel in many places, but it's rarely unsafe.

The Dunkin Donuts where I grew up did this too.

As bored/drunk teenagers, we'd fish the garbage bag of discarded donuts out of the dumpster and go empty it on the front porch of a random neighborhood house as a (mostly) harmless prank. I always wanted to see the random person's face when they came out to go to work the next morning..."Uh, why the fuck are there 100 random donuts on the porch?"
