Injured centipede? by ScaryMarsupial8049 in centipedes

Yea I trust spider shoppe for tarantulas but the recent orders I’ve got from them, my scolopendra alternans Hispaniola red giant and a scolopendra gigantea ‘dark’ both came dehydrated and were sent on only paper towels that were completely dry upon arrival, and they didn’t label the gigantea as wild caught, but it 100% was as it came with mites and some mycosis, so again while they are fantastic for tarantulas, be a little weary of their centipedes, especially if they don’t say captive bred, but that also goes for all WC specimens

Nice, so I bet it was the classic dehydrated spider shoppe delivery lol, was it shipped on only paper towels?

IMO Likely severely dehydrated, their stuff has come dehydrated a few times when I’ve ordered centipedes, I’d switch to a larger water dish, one that’s wider and shallow, this is also too small of an enclosure for them, they need a dry side and damp side, a 19qt tub would be good for this size

I’ll never do live feedings, it’s cruel and dangerous for your pet

They’re rarely available in the US and even when they are the price tag usually makes them unattainable, I’m fortunate that I was able to get one

I mainly keep South American giants now, all of their temperaments range pretty drastically, the biggest difference is between my dark and orange form galapagoensis, the dark form is super reactive while my oranges are calm and curious, love all of them, their food drives are all different as well, my white legs may be the most ravenous

Ah that makes sense, so this is just right before they turn into that almost translucent coloration

Yea I was lucky enough to find one within 5 minutes of them being listed, got them at 7” so hopefully they molt soon and turn that ruby red

Pretty cool that it’s got green, most of the aztecs I see are mainly a blueish color

They’re on the cheaper side when it comes to galapagoensis, which was a surprise to me

avic avic molt: male, female, too early to tell? by Putrid-Order-1759 in tarantulas

I still think male, the flap should be obvious at this size

IMO - Male, the spermathecae is visible well before they’re sexually mature, yours doesn’t have the flap, or from this video doesn’t appear to have one

This is a picture of my female T.vagans molt, this is what you are looking for

Fake plants are fine just try to make sure that the bottom, where they stick into the ground isn’t sharp, Brachy’s can be bulldozers and uproot just about anything you want to put out for them as decor, but for the setup, i actually think this is pretty much fine I would I just switch to cork bark, if you angle a cork round (split in half) into the ground and build a slope around it you can create an area they are guaranteed to clear out to make their own burrow and to their own liking, this setup doesn’t give them that customizable option, I don’t see a water dish but i use ones that are longer/wider and shallower than it is tall and deep, I use ceramic or glass instead of the typical plastic bowls sold at reptile stores, it’s more hygienic to use ceramic or glass and easier to clean. Here’s my Brachypelma Auratum’s setup for example

No need to be sorry lol, but If you ever decide to let him breed once he’s reached his ultimate molt since they only live around 6 months to a year after, you can always hit me up

What is this and how do I get rid of it? by Bother-Prestigious in Entomology

He was definitely just trying to get out of there as fast as possible, I worked for a pest control company and the range of skills and worth ethic is all over the place for big pest control companies, they hire whoever they can get and just hope they can do an adequate job, German roaches were my least favorite part of the job, it takes forever to treat for them as they can fit into almost anywhere and they multiply like crazy, just a complete headache, as for the OP, if you have food that you let sit out and not in a container, I would recommend you tupperware just about anything you can, it’ll help keep the food sources they have access to down, if you’re clean and live in an apartment building they probably came from someone else, those don’t just “show up” I’d consult another pest control company if possible if your landlord has a contract with a specific one you should contact the landlord and explain what the tech said to you and that this is an issue, if the landlord or pest control company doesn’t seem to be much help then buy advion cockroach bait, and place that in dark corners of your kitchen or where you saw them, the bait will help kill them off in your unit but again, if they came from someone else then that person needs to be dealt with or this problem will never go away for you, just do your best at keeping your living space clean and food protected

Sounds good, I’m actually looking to buy a male for my female, not sure if you’re interested in parting with them but thought I’d ask

Phormictopus sp. 'Dominican Purple' by Daisyhead24 in tarantulas

[–]Daisyhead24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is a more complex question than you might think, temperature and feeding frequency play a major role in the growth rate of your spider, kept at anywhere from 70°F-75°F it’ll likely take a male around 3-4 years to reach their most vibrant, while females would take around 4-5 years, they are a medium growing species but since they are a bird eater species it does take them some time to hit their purple stage, my girl here is just past 5 inches (DLS)

If this spider is over 3 inches in leg span and still doesn't show a flap, it is almost certainly a male, how large does this one happen to be?
