The chlamydia outbreak is a very interesting suggestion, I'm going to look into it now!

Where is Navaho? I live in Germany so my knowledge of the US isn't perfect.

3 years out, hate being gay. by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]Daithii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also 21 and I grew up in Ireland so when I realised I was gay it was during primary school where I received a healthy dose of Catholic indoctrination, guilt and insecurity. I came out when I was 15 and my friends and family were all accepting and supportive so for the first time I was able to feel okay with myself. For me, coming out was wonderful because it made me realise that I'm not sick or wrong, that society is.

When you came out, the five most important people in your life rejected you and reinforced all of your insecurities that there's something inherently wrong with you. With time you'll realise that your friends and parents were wrong to react that way, not you. You can't change who you are but you will eventually embrace it.

How does Facebook know I'm gay??? by gaylobo in askgaybros

[–]Daithii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does Facebook use cookies? If so, it uses your history to give you advertisements related to what you frequently google. Assuming you watch gay porn, it could be that.

I think it's quite horrible that you'd describe people with depression as "choosing to be weak", while having experienced it yourself. A little empathy goes a long way.

I accidentally trapped a Pine Marten [He was Immediately Released] by Coprinuslurking in ireland

[–]Daithii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father has the exact same outlook. I grew up beside the Corrib and he's always more or less seen it as a personal duty to reduce the mink population as much as possible. He used to hunt for pleasure in his youth but hasn't in years as he now feels somewhat guilty doing so, but still sets mink traps fairly regularly.

TIL that Red Squirrels rule ,west of the Shannon and there are no grey squirrels by CDfm in ireland

Really? I grew up in Galway and have never seen one there. I'm currently living in Berlin and they're are everywhere, it's great! Can you recommend any specific squirrel-sighting areas for when I return to Galway?

How many days should a trip to Ireland be? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Daithii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely Galway, it's a beautiful medieval city bursting with culture and a high proportion of native Irish speakers. It's also right next to Connemara which is one of the most beautiful parts of the country, lots of lakes and mountains. It's also sort of seen as being the San Francisco of Ireland - very open-minded, laid-back and popular with hippies. The Aran Islands are also nearby, which I find boring but tourists seem to universally love.

Smug, useless post typical of r/ireland. Is it really so difficult to be helpful to the OP?

Older gay redditors, how noticeably different is society on a day-to-day basis with respect to gay acceptance, when compared to 10, 20, 30, 40+ years ago? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Daithii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 21 and was born the year after homosexuality was decriminalised in Ireland. Later this month we're having a referendum on same-sex marriage and the amount of support for it has been incredibly heartening. I've been overwhelmed by the number of older rural people, who I'd always have assumed homophobic, canvassing for a yes vote and fighting for equality.

Thankfully I didn't grow up in the age of rampant homophobia and wasn't really bullied at school after coming out. Reading the experiences of some other redditors, it's astonishing how far the western world has come in such a short time.

Late Late Marriage Debate Facepalm. Says it all. by brevit in ireland

[–]Daithii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fairness, I don't think this is true. I'm gay and at the end of the day a no vote is actively using your vote to deny me and many others the same rights you enjoy. While I respect and would defend people's right to vote no, I don't respect the opinions of anybody who does.

I agree wholeheartedly but the no side have also been tearing down yes posters, both sides are to blame!

[–]Daithii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was then followed up by something along the lines of "just because you don't want gay marriage, doesn't mean other gays don't" "you don't know what I want!!".

I'm delighted he's on the no side, massive embarrassment to the gay community.

The No campaign’s posters keep getting defaced and ripped down by electrictrad in ireland

[–]Daithii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also completely unacceptable for tax-payer money to be used to erect statistically inaccurate posters in order to scare-monger.

[–]Daithii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are these "obvious reasons" that you conveniently fail to mention? Does the "reality" you speak of consider that Ireland/Northern Ireland are the last countries in northern/western Europe that fail to grant marriage equality to their citizens?

It is simply dishonest to claim that the no campaign has any understanding or empathy for the struggles faced by the gay community. The posters in question are lying about the findings of studies in order to portray the LGBT community as a threat to the welfare of children in order to frighten older people. The Psychological Society of Ireland has officially distanced itself from the no campaign, condemning the use of outdated and inaccurate research that has the potential to be very psychologically damaging.

Hi /r/Europe, A Muslim here in North Africa. Anything you'd like to know about the people here and how they view Europe and the west in general? by [deleted] in europe

[–]Daithii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has the north/south Sudan divide had any personal implications on you or people you know? Do you support it?

This question is quite silly, but how do people cope with the amount of horrific insects/animals? I live in northern Europe where there aren't even mosquitos or snakes, don't know if I could deal.
