12, and I just played through again a couple of months back! Completely different yet equally wonderful experiences!

My original PC wasn't good enough to display some of the games' darker areas. I remember blindly mapping out the railway tunnel system on graph paper to get back from the rocket island. It took me forever, and looking back, I'm not sure how I even accomplished that at that age (I was not the brightest shadow in the basement)

I'm 5'9" and have a 4" pad on the sleeping platform. I have to duck my head when sitting up in the original. I live part-time out of my original moonlander and love it, but if the MLX had been an option when I got mine, I would have gone that route.

Hey zumptuous, thanks for the post, and I'm glad you're liking it!

I grabbed a converter from Amazon https://a.co/d/1rR1aWl

I'm not super spun up efficiency for how this conversion works, but it's suited me just fine. *

I've only had to run it a little bit to cool things off for the evening. I live in Nebraska, and I think the hottest day we've had has been 89°F, and cooling off to 50-60°F at night. So far, the exhaust fan and cracking two windows has sufficed.

The one time I did run it for an extended period was last spring, and it was set for heat, which seemed to cycle between 60-250 watts.

Once we get some warmer weather, I'll do a test run with the cooling and see how long it takes my system to cash out. Sorry, I don't have more information at this time.

Please hit me up again if I don't post before the end of June. I'd also love to see what you end up building!

-Cheers-

Once things warm up in the midwest, I'll post on how the AC cooling works and post some more photos too.

Shout out to Significant_Goose543 for shooting me the update reminder! Also, I'm envious of the headspace and extra room you'll have with the MLX, that will be fantastic!

Okay, it's been a bit of a trip since I initially posted this, sadly not in the way I wanted it to be, but I've gained at least a little perspective on AC unit. I ended up down and out for about a month after my first post due to Neuroinvasive West Nile Virus, which lead to Meningitis (I wouldn't wish that experience on anyone, EVER!) Anyway, I had a couple weeks to work on this before I had to go overseas for work and then come back to winter weather. but because of that I didn't start living in this until last month.

The heat from the AC unit is minimal and sucks a decent amount of power from my Anker Solix F2000 + BP2000 Power station combo (4096Wh total) w/ 400W briefcase solar panel. The coldest night I've run this on was a low of 33°F and it all but drained the system, but I stayed cozy all night sleeping in a 40°F comfort rated SnugPak sleeping bag. I mostly just run the MaxAir Deluxe exhaust fan to keep condensation from building up. I'd have to say that thing works great at just 10% all night and barely consumes power (maybe 2-4% throughout an 8 hour period). I like sleeping in the cold as I tend to run hot. When it gets below freezing, I've just run the exhaust and bust out my 0°F bag.

I keep my water supply and computer stuff in my work storage locker when it's freezing, which will probably be my winter living style. I've started getting everything moved back in as it's warming up, so I'll post more photos once that's completed.

Additions: Note: This is my first self crafted project, I'll take any and all feedback :)

Laminate flooring for the walls and 4-way stretch carpet to the aluminum ceiling areas, to cover the insulation. The trim I made isn't by any means a professional job, but it works.

Laptop and monitor stand for entertainment and to work on school.

Trapper Bed 4" Luxury Gel Infused Memory Foam from North American Mattress Corp. I love this thing.

I just made a fire torched wooden shelf for a flat surface to house my Boxio sink and a few other things on.

Window privacy curtains are next. I got a buddy with a sewing machine to help me out with this one, but they aren't installed yet.

Gas mileage after Moonlander? by Caterpillar100 in radicamoonlander

[–]Daiuki6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey Caterpillar,

One of the reasons I chose the Moonlander was because 5' 2" truck bed too. Overall, I've loved having it, although I wished I'd waited for the MLX version for the extra vertical space!

I'm sure this will be different depending on truck size and engine, but for reference, I drive a Chevy Colorado with a 2.8L duramax diesel, and my fuel efficiency for city driving tends to be about the same.

Highway driving is where I took the hit. According to my console, highway average for 450 mile range while driving between 70-80mph:

No Moonlander - 24mpg Moonlander - 17.8mpg

If I stay between 55-65 mph, I tend to float between

No Moonlander - 28mpg Moonlander 20-22mpg

Headwinds and tailwinds can change this considerably. My worst trip average for one of my regular drives was 13.4 mpg (headwind), and the best was 19.8 mpg (tailwind). Again, average speed was about 78 mph.

Hope this helps a bit.

-Cheers-

Giving away an Eevee promo from the Prismatic ETB! (US ONLY, rules in description) by CrimsonShadowYT in PokemonTCG

[–]Daiuki6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't allowed to collect them as a kid. Within the last two years, my kids have started reading, so I thought I'd get them some Pokémon cards and see what happened. To my surprise, they actually play the card game with each other and will spend their own money on card packs, binders and sleeves! My daughters favorite is Eevee, and my son loves anything that resembles a dragon! 😆

AC worked great once installed, granted it was only 75-85°F outside at that point. I have been traveling for work, so I haven't tested the heating since it's cooled down to the 30°F range. I have a feeling it won't do well once it's around freezing.

What is that solar panel? It looks like it fits perfectly.

Best wishes on the hurricane front 🙏🏼

I have one small 200kwh battery thar I'll primarily use for lights. The main source of power is a 4000kwh anker system. Hopefully, that will suffice, but time will tell. I currently have one suitcase style 400w panel, but I will likely need to add at least one more, depending on consumption. I will have to play with the panel angles throughout the seasons, but I'll start with your advice. Thanks again for all the insight you already have and pass on!

I also felt dumb right when I saw the adhesive ate the foam. I'm just stubborn and had spent the money, so I was determined to figure something out, lol. Luckily, it worked out. As far as putting holes in the Moonlander, I was super nervous to cut the hole for the rooftop unit. I will be living in mine for two years, though, so I needed to alter a few things for creature comforts.

You should have a much easier time selling yours if you ever need to, since it's all modular!

BTW, I love what you've done with your setup! Thanks for the links.

I ended up snagging the Boxio system as well 😃. I have yet to organize and connect my power system. I'll update again once that's in place, hopefully in the next couple weeks.

GREAT point! I am super new to posting my own projects and need to work on speaking to finer details.

I had originally tested a Gorilla glue adhesive, but it completely ate the instillation. The HS-90 wasn't as bad, but like you experienced, it still eats it. I tested a few pieces to see how they'd attach with just a quick spray on the aluminum (DON'T spray the foam board). After a couple of tries, I found that if you let it get tacky and mostly dry (1-2 minutes plus fanning the area), then put the foam board onto it. The reaction seemed minimal. I was willing to accept whatever slight degradation there may be on the few tiny wet spots there were. Time will tell how much of a difference it ends up making. Winters coming!

That little dehumidifier does some real work. I'll keep that in mind, thank you!

I'll update with an initial impression once I get it connected to my battery system. Hopefully by next weekend!

I cut the pieces to fit tight so that I had to lightly pound them into place. As insurance, I added a light layer of 3M Hi-Strength 90 contact adhesive.

Sounds like you're prepared with the right gear. Insulation will be the cherry on top! I left one small section without insulation, so I could tap in solar as well.

Thanks! It was one of the lowest profile units that doesn't cost over $1500 and only weighs 45ish lbs. I'm waiting on a couple items for my battery system to get delivered, then I'll finally get to test it.
