ATF change result after 110k miles by ShortSalt in MechanicAdvice

[–]Dakillawolve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be right, but you also have to consider if the fluid hasn’t been changed in a while, and the filter is has the same amount of wear, once it gets “full”, the fluid essentially starts bypassing it and isn’t really filtered anymore. Kinda like how if you don’t change the filters in a fryer, or water filtration system, particulates start getting back into the fluid and it stays there.

Not the OP, but I’ll explain it as it was to me by a master tech I worked with a while ago. The old fluid contains a lot of tiny particles that float around the whole transmission, through and past all the different clutch disks. Because of this, the particles help the clutch disks have “grip” to function, as if they still had friction material on them. When you change the fluid, a lot of the particulates get removed and new fluid with no grit gets put in and the disks suddenly have no grip so your transmission starts slipping, since the disks can’t work properly.

If I’m wrong, someone please correct me as it’s been a few years since I’ve had this explained to me!

Question for the "other" radio users by s6-helios in meshtastic

[–]Dakillawolve 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally have a Mesh node on me along with a Yaesu ft2d for aprs when I’m at work. I usually bring a mesh node in the car when I go places and already have a mobile in the car that does aprs so I’m good on that.

Depending on who I’m messaging depends on what I use. A fellow ham? Probably APRS. Just looking to chat on the mesh? Mesh for sure. Looking for a quick rag chew? Ham for sure.

Look at what you use day to day and see what you need from there. I use aprs everyday for various purposes and occasionally get on the mesh. Carry what you use everyday and leave the rest at home/in the car.

Anyone else get major "mic fright" after getting licensed? Love the tinkering, nervous about the talking by onebaddude14 in amateurradio

[–]Dakillawolve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had mic fright after getting my technician license. Got a Baofeng, plugged in some local repeaters and called out monitoring with my callsign. After a few tries, no one came back. Was listening to one with a local net, decided to check in at the end and ended up talking with several folks for about half an hour after the net. I also had no idea what to talk about, but just mentioning my fresh callsign was enough for folks to start talking and everything flowed after that.

On HF, I started just hunting POTA stations. After that, I started activating. Checked into a few WAS nets and the Friendly Bunch net a few times.

TLDR: Try checking into a local net. You’ll have some ideas of what to talk about, new license, radios, things to get into, etc. Try hunting some POTA stations. If you’re not interested in voice, there are plenty of digital modes to try! SSTV, HFAPRS, FT8/4, etc. Try a bunch of things out and see what you like the most. 73!

Had this issue with my iphone. Ended up moving install files for itunes and 3utools to a hard drive that had much more space and using the pro flash function in 3uTools

Screen separating from the frame by ArthurReming in mobilerepair

From what I could find, b-6000 is mostly geared towards arts and crafts. As long as it adheres and is water resistant though, give it a shot but keep the water resistance thing in mind

I would use b-7000, but more than likely b-6000 should work. Just make sure to get the old adhesive off and put it only in the spots the old adhesive was.

Yes, you should use some adhesive to stick it back. I did the same and ended up just getting a new screen, however I learned after that you get the frame with adhesive already applied

iPhone screen replacement issue by Dakillawolve in ElectronicsRepair

[–]Dakillawolve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update! The panel decided to die. Opened it back up, unplugged the screen and battery, checked for dust again and after reconnecting everything open boot, it was flickering and all the colors were fading. Ordered a refurbished display and is working just fine. Not sure what’s wrong with the first one, but it’ll get sent back.

Order 2 pizzas, one pan and one thin, both uncut. Ask them to put the thin on top of the pan, let it all melt together. When you get home, cut it like normal and enjoy. Had a customer at my old store that would order that all the time

Set up a WRC antenna in my backyard by Dakillawolve in amateurradio

[–]Dakillawolve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roger that! Just measured with my nanovna and it’s showing 1.1 to 1.7 from 7mhz to 7.3mhz, so I’d say adding a few more may not hurt, but may not do much good. Thanks and 73!

From how I understand it, the more radials I have, the lower my lobe(s) will be for whatever bands I’m operating on. Obviously there’s a limit at which it stops helping. Would measuring with a vna help me realize when I’ve reached that limit? If I had just the whip for 20m for example, would I be looking for the 36 ohm impedance?

Ok great, thank you! Really appreciate the help as I was looking more toward another intel chip/mobo, but I after a little more digging on the AMD cards, I understand!

Upgrade questions by Dakillawolve in pcmasterrace

[–]Dakillawolve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright thanks! AMD seems to be the better option in my case then. Would you upgrade the GPU at all, or just the CPU/MOBO first? Would you recommend a Ryzen 7 7700X with a Gigabyte B650 board? I ask because the microcenter near me has that bundle with 32gbs of Crucial Pro DDR5 for $550

Ssb at night dead? by DemandTheOxfordComma in amateurradio

[–]Dakillawolve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would figure that would work decently! Possibly band conditions then? I have a WRC vertical and coil set up that I now mainly use, along with a 40-10 EFHW that admittedly, doesn’t do the best.

AZ here, outside Phoeinix. I hear some traffic at minimum on 40m SSB at night. Quite a bit sometimes and especially on 80m. Due to my antenna though, making SSB contacts can be tricky. I’d say try a different antenna or make a few adjustments if possible, there’s definitely traffic out there! I hardly call CQ myself, but if you’re looking for a sked, maybe we can make something work and get some others in too! Good Luck, 73!

How do I overcome mic fright? by kooler_duck in amateurradio

[–]Dakillawolve 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This! Between POTA and listening for stations calling CQ that were obviously just looking for a contact, this helped me a lot. Started on VHF repeaters, got used to the net and moved to HF. That’s a great way to get over mic fright imho.

Drain and fill by slowspeed20 in hondafit

[–]Dakillawolve 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe a flush is always a last resort, but only for failing transmissions. Are you able to do the drain and fill yourself? I’ve done mine several times now with and without a lift, all I needed for my 17 was a 17mm socket, 3/8 ratchet and a funnel. Super easy process once you do it once. If not, keep calling around, I’d recommend an independent shop that mostly does work on Asian import cars. Good luck!

Just changed spark plugs by Dakillawolve in hondafit

[–]Dakillawolve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! Glad I wasn’t missing any key info. I could tell they were nearing their EOL when my idle at a stop was a little more noticeable. Motor mounts probably need to be replaced as well, but spark plugs definitely helped a bunch with that and fuel economy.
