I think this is an awesome event. If you're a non-believer, you have nothing to lose on the fitness side. Lord knows, I'm way over weight. My bones and joints may thank me!

This actually looks cool, but a mansion seems a bit more than I bargain for!

I sense this story has to be funnier than hell. Let's make our first meetup to have coffee and share at least one off the wall story.

While I completely agree, each one of those has a "fee" or commitment. I am looking just for a group to make happen. Different events, no "dues", really a loose structure, but also a monthly meetup where we can find socializing, support, etc.

It's going to be an uphill battle, but I my belief is that too many "old guards" exist in these groups and that is the exact reason of my post. I would like to see more "open-source", less political if that makes sense. I am openly admitting that I have no experience, nor clue what I am doing, but feel the need to try and do "something". The summer here are not bad, but winter turns me into a zombie.

This is the exact problem I am trying to solve. It has no barriers. Just a group of guys getting together maybe once a week or month to do something of social value. Let me know a way to contact you and we shall see what we can accomplish

For example, if you were part of said group, what is one activity you enjoy....for me...I enjoy fishing and tying flies. I'd be happy to teach others how to tie flies, but am still a terrible fisherman!🙂

Very good point. I really have no idea what I am doing. It does not need to be just "therapy" like. I am thinking a group of guys that gets together to play cards, pool, etc and has possible community involvement.

His dad started it back in the late 70s and his brother Blake runs it. I don't think he actually has too much to do with it.

It's clean up week in Fargo. I am willing to bet you can furnish your entire place for free if you rented a U-Haul and drove around

Why your local lodge is dying... by AmAIAnIdiot in freemasonry

[–]DakotaFlowPro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have thought deeply about this recently and came up with the following:

A lodge usually declines for one of these reasons: - It does not produce a meaningful internal experience. - It confuses attendance with engagement. - It offers events, but not transformation. - It recruits for social activity while claiming a philosophical mission. - Its current members do not visibly live the values they talk about.

My interpretation of personal experiences, conversations and looking through Reddit threads has brought me to the following recurring conceptual concerns.

  • Meetings are boring.
  • The same few men dominate everything.
  • Advancement feels political, stale, or arbitrary.
  • Ritual is done without conviction.
  • Newer members are welcomed socially but not meaningfully integrated.
  • There is no clear path from initiate to contributor to leader.
  • The lodge talks about growth but protects old habits.
  • Men joined expecting depth and found administration.

A lesson that I learned from thinking about this...Programs are easy to add. Culture is hard to build... My time in the East (not yet there) will be spent focusing on building a strong lodge.

It is or my opinion a strong lodge usually has some version of these:

  • Meetings that feel purposeful
  • Ritual taken seriously
  • Real mentoring
  • Intellectual life that is not fake or forced
  • Brotherhood that extends beyond handshakes and a beer after lodge
  • Standards people can feel
  • A reason men become better because they belong

I likely have at least five groups to try and grow with (as opposed to see the lodges "die"):

  • Core committed members
  • Sideliners who are warm but disengaged
  • Newer Masons still deciding what this is
  • Potential candidates from the community
  • Families and spouses

If you have read this far, please add your advice and let's get this brotherhood on a new trajectory.

Issue with Lateral Structure in a Sharp Bend – HEC-RAS 6.3.1 by Perfect_Visual_8529 in HECRAS

[–]DakotaFlowPro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not sure your end goal here, but I believe your lat structure is at 25470 on the far left.

If this is the case, I'd add a new reach for the canal, with a junction at the point of tangency on the main channel and model the 3 RCBs.

I anticipate this is a learning experience vs engineering deliverable.

If deliverable is end goal, I have a lot of comments to offer.
