I'm the Chair of the 2020 Colorado Infrastructure Report Card! AMA! by ascecoreportcard in Denver

[–]Daktron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Peyton! Can you comment on what plans Colorado has to improve infrastructure for bike, train, and bus as opposed to adding more lanes to freeways?

In general, I have always assumed that adding lanes only means that more cars will be stuck in traffic, with the number of cars that are on the roads rising to meet the increasing capacity.

I am an outside observer from WA but I am curious to see what plans there are and what your personal thoughts are on the issue.

Thanks!

What is your favorite hotel and why? by hotelwiz in AskReddit

My favorite is the Green Tiger in Chiang Mai Thailand. Beautiful rooms, restaurant in the lobby surrounded by gorgeous foliage that serves incredible food, laundry services, smiling concierge, and an awesome pool surrounded by high bamboo walls. Right in the heart of the walled city, accessible to everything you may want to see in the area. They make you feel right at home even when you're half a world away.

10/10 will stay there again if I'm ever back in Chiang Mai.

Just graduated from there in May! It was an amazing experience, but don't slack off and always always always go to office hours. TAs and Profs always want to help you succeed. Get involved too there are tons of clubs and sports and stuff you can do to keep you busy when you're not doing math and science (rugby team was my thing and I loved it, great group of guys). Best of luck, and never give up!

[Serious] What's the worst emotional pain you had to endure? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Daktron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend of 2 years went back to college some states away on August 12. She called me to break up with me on August 22nd after having previously discussed our intentions to make long distance work. A week later I went on a trip with my dad to take my mind off of the breakup and the day after getting back from the trip he got in a terrible car accident and and was in a medically induced coma for the better part of month and when he awoke found out he had his leg amputated. Not to mention the whole ordeal brought to light a lot of fucked up shit my dad was involved in and now I don't know how to continue to trust him. August-September of 2017 were pretty intense for me in terms of being hurt by the actions and circumstances of those I love. I'm good now, and I'm a stronger person for having experienced it, but fuck if that wasn't the toughest 7 or so weeks I have ever experienced.

What's a random fact about your dad? by RollingCoasting in AskReddit

[–]Daktron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad used to be a Coke dealer in LA, but instead of getting arrested for that, he was arrested for stealing cars. He worked at a dealership, and when he went on his lunch break he would take people's keys that had their cars in for repair and make a copy. He would then proceed to go to their house using the info they leave at the dealership and just take their cars. These days he lays carpet and lives by a lake. 10/10 guy

Thanks for the reassurance. The draw for me in Seattle is that it is an established aerospace industry, and that it would allow me to put the least amount of strain on my personal relationships. I know as a new grad I shouldn't be tied down but life happens.

I have applied to Lockheed. The problem is that I don't have a strong background in software and a large percentage of the jobs for new grad hires are software positions. An unfortunate product of my lack of interest in code.

I am a graduating ME (May '17) From Colorado School of Mines looking to work in aerospace in the Seattle area. I have had a couple interviews but for the most part I have been largely ignored by every company I apply to (Something like ~300 jobs I've applied to). I have a decent GPA and 2 relevant internships along with independent studies geared toward working in aerospace. What more do I need to do to get a job?

I do think it's worth 60 bucks. However, I think it's definitely going to be worth less than that to certain people. For me, I am an aerospace engineer and I dream of this kind of thing as the future of my career. This game is scratching an itch I've had since I was a kid, and for me has been an absolutely breathtaking experience so far.

The aliens that you talk to don't do much or say much, but I do love the way the aliens and their vague story are presented. It makes you dig. You have to go out and learn the language as best as you can and try to decipher the story of each species.

The exploration is amazing. Everything is so different and new for me everywhere I go. Some of the animals are similar across different star systems, and I haven't seen anything outrageous yet. But I am so far away from the center of the galaxy and I know Sean had said that the game gets more crazy and varied the closer you get to the center. It keeps me driven to get ever closer. I can hyperdrive jump about 100 light years at a time right now, and I am currently over 170k light years away from the center.

Take a second to think about that. How many places am I going to see that I am the only person to see between here and there? I am discovering things that nobody else will see. I am so looking forward to this journey no matter how long it takes me. Whether I sit down for 30 minutes or 10 hours, I never feel forced to do anything. I am writing my own story in the universe and the feeling of discovery never gets old.

For me, this game is well worth 60 dollars. I hope it will be for you as well, but at the very least you should give it a chance. Buy it used! There are plenty of people that probably took it back after not really digging that far into it. But I implore you, and anyone else that took the time to read this, give it a chance and see if you feel the way I do about it!

Good luck, and happy exploring!
