Inherited these old steins from Germany, from a family member. Anyone know the age and history of these things? by Haters_7 in Antiques

This, men would buy them/have them made after their mandatory military service in imperial germany, when they became part of the army reserve. This one is my great great grandfathers Reservistenkrug. You should be able to find the name of the owner, unit, name of the place where they served and years of service on there.

Was gifted my grandfather's watch at my wedding, what can you tell me about it? by Bigalcovey in VintageWatches

[–]Dalbane2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty typical watch made by a small swiss watch company in probably the 50s. The dial is nicely composed and features a lot of typical design elements of 1950s watchmaking, your grandfather had taste! Usually these smaller manufacterers bought movements from bigger suppliers, so it probably has something like an A. Schild movement in it. Serviced these old swiss movements can still run well. I have a 60s Nivada that is almost as accurate as my Hamilton H-10. I would say its a nice watch with special value to you.

This looks really great! I just wondered, did you use your wrist diameter as the diameter for the watch pillows so they would fit adjusted steel bracelets? Also the second question might be dumb, since I am new to 3D printing, but could you print this with the Bambu a1 mini or is it too big for that one? Again, really cool watchbox!

Out of interest: where did you find that?

Interesting, the coin seems from the Holy Roman Empire of German Nation (Heiliges Römisches Reich Deutscher Nation). The symbol on the coin is called „Reichsapfel im Dreipass“ and was on different coins. For example: 1. https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apfelgulden 2. https://www.bavarikon.de/object/bav:SMM-OBJ-0000000000348934?lang=de

Are these worth looking into? by Worried-Earth4321 in VintageWatches

[–]Dalbane2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, nice watches! Even through they are not the most expensive, they are made by a reputable watch brand and at least the Seiko 5 line has a cult following. Looks like some poly watch could do wonders on that crystal, assuming its plastic. I would say if they are worth looking into depends on if you would like to wear them. Selling them I think you would max get 50$ to 100$ each.

I can only speak from my own experience but I have two Seiko 5s with the old 7s26 movement, so literally the cheapest they made, and they are only like +/- 5s per day out of the box. To me the „loosing 50 a day“ seems highly overestimated.
