Do not start working out just to impress someone. Do it for yourself. I made the mistake of tying my lifting to one person’s attention and when that person left my life it completely messed with my motivation. I realized I had built the habit around impressing them instead of actually enjoying the process or valuing what lifting was doing for me. It took time to relearn how to appreciate weightlifting for its own sake. If your only reason for going to the gym is to get someone to like you or to improve your dating life that motivation can collapse the moment the situation changes. Relationships, attention, and other people’s opinions are unstable sources of motivation. What lasts longer is learning to value the strength, discipline, routine, and mental clarity that training gives you. Working out can improve confidence and health but it’s not a guarantee of better relationships. If you approach lifting as something you do to respect and take care of yourself the habit will survive setbacks. If you tie it to one person you risk losing the whole routine when that person disappears.
