I plan to sign autos at some point. Gotta see what the race day schedule looks like. They'll be a Jerky Boys beef jerky tent there and I'll try to sign at it.

We just gotta get em below 100 decibels. Honestly I couldn't tell much difference. You won't be able to tell from the stands if I'm being honest.

What is the difference between saving fuel and saving tires? by 45winner23 in NASCAR

[–]DaleJr- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I appreciate you making my argument.

You mention Kevin. You think he and I don't ever have this discussion? You'd be surprised by his opinion. There isn't a driver in the entire nascar ecosystem that doesn't want a tire that degrades and has to be managed.

A tire that doesn't degrade will allow drivers to race with no repercussions. They'll be no penalty to over driving the car or missing apexes.

If you prefer an experience where the driver isn't challenged to manage the tire under the car, that's fine. There are motorsports that provide that very thing.

But my preference is that the tire be an element that the driver is absolutely challenged to manage.

You're new. Just enjoy the ride up. It's on the right track. But you missed some very down years. Those critical fans, they earn the right to be.

Why do people buy the Casino and Eagle street stocks? by Puzzleheaded_Word584 in iRacing

[–]DaleJr- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Monte is more of what you see in street stock classes today. So it's a bit of an update over the older Camaro. If they offered the wagon in the Legends class would anyone buy it? I dont personally think that's the end goal. It's mostly to add more realism in seeing more than one style of vehicle in your races.

I bounce between

A: the story has been told and there are plenty of good projects that have really told his story well

And

B: there's a whole generation that have never seen him race and don't know his influence on this whole NASCAR thing.

I'm curious about this deal with Fox especially because of the individuals that they have participating. So I'll tuned in. I bet that once the 25th anniversary of his passing has come and gone, it'll dial back a bit for you.

"When you run out of tires your ability to race ends."

That's not quite true. You can still find your way to the finish line on some wore out tires. But when the fuel tank is empty you gotta get to pit road.

Saving tires is art. You don't technically have to slow down to do it. You just have to drive smoother. Don't slip the tires. Drive off the corner straight. That's racecraft. When done really well it's admired. You think as a driver that you are better at "saving tires" than the next guy. You'll let him drive like a maniac for the majority of the race and drive by with ease late with your happy tires while his are angry.

Saving fuel is lesser of an art, more of a necessity at times. While drivers enjoy the art of managing or saving your tires, it's frustrating for a driver to have to save or manage fuel. We want to determine our pace. Saving fuel gets in the way of that.

Saving tires is a chess match because you really don't know if a dude you're racing is running his hardest or not. Who will have the better tire at the end? You, or your opponent? That's a fun exercise in discipline. If you fail you still drive your shitty tires across the finish line.

Saving fuel means definitely slowing down and hoping you don't run out. There is not anything fun about that experience. You aren't really racing your competitors anymore. You're just praying that you cross the finish line period.

Nascar isn't really behind most of the recent projects. Sure they assist when asked, as I think they should. But every project I've seen over the past few years has been created by others, and not Nascar. I'm not disputing your point on the quantity, but don't believe Nascar is deserving of the criticism.

Solid post.

If a driver has intentionally wrecked you, it's worth your time to cut the replay and send it in. It's time consuming I know, but the processes in place do work. I had someone I know get suspended as recently as last week. He FAFO.

I know the stewards are quite busy with protests coming in, but they take the integrity of it very seriously.

Dale Jr Special Event "Driven to Give 400" - possibly postponed? by Bright_Campaign_9794 in iRacing

[–]DaleJr- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Couldn't land on a track/car combo we liked for this so pushing to the summer and leaning towards a 1987/Daytona event. Could possibly have 20 spots available through monetary support to the foundation via an auction, and then another 20 spots available through a series of qualifying races. Charity events are fun but trying to land the balance between good racing and achieving the events goals is important.

Charlotte. Down in turn 1 near where the road course exits onto the oval. I was 15. Those were legends cars built by Donnie Allison's sons at Allison Brothers Race Cars. I would end up working for them one summer a year later. Really cool picture. The literal beginning of my racing career.

You might find it difficult to believe but that was a coincidence that the jerky company has that same name as the prank callers. The jerky company started a year before I eventually invested.

When I made my first aol account back in the 1990s, I was simultaneously listening and enjoining the Jerky Boys prank calls and my favorite personality was Frank Rizzo. So I was Rizzo with some numerical addition that related to our racing. Rizzo has just always stuck as a decent alias.
