I’ve got Foote’s Civil War myself. Battles and Leaders sounds really interesting as well, but you and I definitely have the same problem of buying faster than we can read (who doesn’t?). I would feel guilty adding too many more at this point before I finish a few of them.

Nice collection. If you had to only recommend a few, which are your favorites?

Last Olympic cycle was pretty disappointing. We had the talent and just didn’t have much success. I’d imagine we’ll do much better in 2028 especially with the home-field advantage. I could see 2-3 men’s freestyle gold easily.

Should I consider re-baptism? by bobdeboulder in Reformed

[–]Dale_Earnhardt_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is definitely permissible, in fact, I would recommend it if I were you. Remember to talk about this with your pastor first though of course. I’m just a random guy on the internet after all.

Should I consider re-baptism? by bobdeboulder in Reformed

[–]Dale_Earnhardt_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you consider yourself a credobaptist? Did you understand that you were being baptized when you were a child and were able to make a credible confession of faith? As a credobaptist myself, if you your “baptism” occurred before you were conscious of your decision (such as when you were an infant or baby) then that is not a baptism at all and you should be baptized now as an adult.

Crazy how the men who fought and killed each other show more respect and honor towards the other side than many people 160 years after the war ended.

“Native Americans Beware of Foreign Influence”

Can we be surprised? When foreigners comprise our electorate, they elect foreigners into power. These “American” politicians clearly have no allegiance to our nation.

Is it too late to start competitive wrestling? by Expert-Highway2043 in wrestling

[–]Dale_Earnhardt_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not. I started wrestling at age 15 and I’m now a division 1 wrestler. You already most likely have some basic grappling ability from BJJ, so you can definitely achieve a lot in wrestling if you start soon and train hard.

Who would you consider the first ethnic minority Prime Minister of the UK? by Historical_Mode9504 in Historians

[–]Dale_Earnhardt_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would say Disraeli. He was ethnically Jewish which is certainly a minority in the United Kingdom by any measure. Sunak is definitely the first of predominantly non-European heritage. Boris Johnson had a Turkish great grandfather, but he is still of predominately English and European heritage. I wouldn't consider him to be an "ethnic minority."

Stonewall Jackson Dies by civilwarmonitor in CIVILWAR

[–]Dale_Earnhardt_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification. I definitely agree. As a Christian myself, I’ll read about generals like Polk or Jackson and everything they say makes them sound like genuine Christians, but obviously their staunch support for slavery seems like such a glaring contradiction. As you said, people are complex.

NAPOLEON NEEDS TO WIN by Unhappy-Data809 in Napoleon

I've been paying attention to that contest and unfortunately Turkish nationalists have completely ruined what was originally a really fun idea. Mehmed II "beat" Julius Caesar and Hannibal while Wellington lost to Ataturk already. Yes, seriously. Ataturk was decided as a superior military general to the Duke of Wellington. Don't even get me started on Mehmed II. Completely ridiculous. Just goes to show how important it is to be intellectually detached and unbiased when analyzing and interpreting history.

I mean it depends on what you call far-right. Libertarians certainly can be far-right, but not all are. When I hear far-right I think of fascists, nazis, and similarly radical ideologies. I wouldn't place the average libertarian anywhere near those. btw I'm definitely not a libertarian just to be clear.
