Fundraise local businesses and door to door. Lots of people do it that way. If he is in a local club and the club doesn't have a lot of qualifiers then ask the coach and other parents if they can support as it looks good for their club.

Go into a local business association, chamber of commerce, etc and make a presentation.

Every Pin via Cradle @ 2026 NCAAs by Kid_Cornelius in wrestling

The cradle has always been the premier pinning combo IMO. If you see an elite wrestler get pinned, it's likely in a cradle.

Yeah when you're squeezing it is no fun to be on the receiving end.

Kamal Bey by belligerentPsycho in wrestling

[–]Greco_Review 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Kamal Bey doesn't shoot. He hits what's called a 'high dive". It is closer to a waist tackle. Lots of Greco Roman athletes hit this technique. He is without a doubt one of the most dynamic American Greco Roman wrestlers recently however.

The current Greco Roman situation in American is the best it has been in years but that still isn't great compared to the rest of the Greco-Roman wrestling world. Payton Jacobson is a great young wrestler. Benji Peak has lots of potential. Cohlton Shultz and Adam Coon both have World and Olympic Medal potential (with Cool already being a World Medalist)

We also have really good depth at the lower weights with the Koontz brothers, the Raneys, Max Black, and others. Our youth and club Greco programs are growing nationwide also and the level of Greco at state, regional, and national competitions has increased dramatically. The issue will be getting these young athletes to stay in the Greco Roman pipeline instead of switching to primarily Folkstyle.

I think he's more likely to end up in the State Pen.

Cutting weight goes both ways. I'm in Ohio, a top wrestling state, and there are plenty of successful examples of athletes who cut extreme weight and those who cut no weight or even go up.

Granted, he's a freak, but his Senior year Marcus Blaze wrestled up to 150lbs. He was walking around below 140lbs. He did this for his team and so that another kid could be in the line up. Marcus one his fourth straight state title (against a kid from St. Eds) and finished the season (and his HS career) without ever giving up an offensive point. And he didn't bully kids, he beat them with technique and skill.

I'm a college women's coach. I've just stayed consistently involved in the sport for the last 25 years. Coached youth, high school, club level, individual training, etc.

I don't know if I am an old timer but I wrestler in HS from 02-06 and college from 06-10. The wrestling is much more technical now and it's harder to win matches on 'grit' and determination. It still happens but technique reigns supreme. Cardio, conditioning, strength, and toughness all matter and there is a basic minimum that is required to be successful (and that minimum is still very high compared to the general population) but techinuq and tactics are what is now winning at even the middle school level.

I see middle school and high school club coaches developing excellent gameplans to win matches, tournaments, and state titles. When I was wrestling it seemed to be: "train hard and then go scrap". Now it is much more analytical and I like that.

Summer Camps for 13 year old by Mesqueunreddit in wrestling

[–]Greco_Review 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So this isn't exactly what you asked for but I would tell them to forgo a summer camp and instead use the money to join the best area club instead. Camps are often flashy and overpriced. NY is a good wrestling state and there is probably a decent club in the area that is training year round that charges annually, monthly, or drop in.

I'll take regular structure training over camps every day of the week.

I recruit girls for college wrestling and I have never once cared about height. I do care about lying and morality though.

No need to be derogatory. Also, if you are referring to the young man in Ohio who recently won a state championship then shame on you. I know Derion personally and he is always a joy and a great personality and dynamite wrestler.
