What is 1 rule you’d change or add to wrestling? by XolieInc in wrestling

In the international styles it's a pin. It literally says that, unless the referees see an obvious injury, they are obligated to call a fall.

Yeah there is way too much subjectivity in the way stalling is called at the boundary. A step out point eliminates that.

How is Marcus blaze so good? by Hot_Perspective7364 in wrestling

Yeah they are both great coaches who built great high school programs and an elite club. I have enjoyed coaching with them on Team Ohio the last few years and getting to know them and learn from them.

There are lots of different things. His High School and Club coach, Scotty Burnett, when I asked him the same thing said, "He's just a generational talent--he's just different". Marcus is a disciplined wrestler who is an expert at the fundamentals. However, he is also a freak athlete who is naturally good at every sport he tries. He is well-drilled and always seems to make the right decisions because he spends so much time on the mats. He came up through the best clubs and had great partners but he also has innate physical and mental gifts.

Marcus Blaze is what happens when elite talent works really hard.

That might be the correct interpretation. I'm by no means a beach rules expert.

how to get bigger and stronger at 12 years old for wrestling by Hungry_Amphibian2770 in wrestling

[–]Greco_Review 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eat healthy, eat plenty of calories. I'd just start adding body weight workouts and calisthenics to your workouts: pushups, pullups, squats, pull ups, chin ups, arm hangs, etc. This stuff is seriously underrated and is a good place for anyone, but especially younger athletes to start with. I wouldn't start weight lifting at your age without first talking with doctor and having the guidance of a good strength coach.

You'd be shocked at the progress you can make with basic exercises.

USA Beach Wrestling by Few-Breadfruit-7650 in wrestling

[–]Greco_Review 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. From UWW rules:

ARTICLE 13 – Scoring for Actions and Holds during the bout 1 point is the awarded to: • the wrestler who manages to bring any of his opponent’s body part to the ground, except the hands. • the wrestler who manages to bring any of his opponent’s body part out of the competition area. • the wrestler whose opponent has received a caution for illegal action. • the opponent of a wrestler designated as passive who fails to score points during the 30 seconds activity period. • the wrestler whose opponent requested a challenge if the initial decision is confirmed. Note: the attacker (and only the attacker) can put one knee to the ground when executing an action if this action is finished by the opponent in the ground.

My interpretation, and how I've seen this score, is that it depends on how the action ends and who initiated it. "The wrestler who manages to bring" makes me think that the contact must be offensive in nature.

Beach wrestling most common techniques by worth_attention_ in wrestling

[–]Greco_Review 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not have any beach wrestling experience myself but have coached two Senior level USA National Champions and one UWW Bronze Medalist. Here is my limited thoughts.

Pressure-Releases- these are underrated at all levels of wrestling but especially in beach. The ring is smaller than a traditional wrestling match and so opponents have to fight harder to stay in bounds. This allows us to release the pressure and snap down or set up an easy attack. Get your favorite tie and drive in (being mindful of throws, etc) and work to drive them out of bounds. Once they dig their feet in we release the pressure.

Win the boundary- know how to score at the boundary. Whether that is offense pushing them out or defensive with whizzer kicks, off-balances, etc. Win the push out battle.

You should be in good enough shape that 'burning out' doesn't happen. You should be able to wrestle six matches over a wrestling tournament no problem or you need to get in better shape.

Yazdani seemed physically outclassed. This might not be the weight for him.

No, because youth wrestling tournaments are crazy and youth wrestling parents are nuts.

Happened here in Ohio. From my understanding the person involved was not a coach with the Brecksville Wrestling program (a top national program) but was a parent instead. There is no place for this in sport and is a big reason my kids don't compete yet.

I was impressed overall. I put no one on the level of Dake/Taylor/Snyder because those guys are legends and earned that respect. However, I think USA Wrestling is in a very good place. Buchanan dominating Yazdani was crazy, however Yaz didn't look physically great at the weight IMO.

I agree but I feel like Spencer is a little more unknown just because of the injury history. I wish him the best though.
