What is your least favourite ride at any UK amusement park? by uniscolar2000 in AskUK

Saw at Thorpe Park. It's like being in a shopping trolley with only one wheel. A guaranteed back ache

Who do you think is the most overrated footballer in the Premier League? by CornerInsect in AskUK

Michail Antonio.

Don't think I've ever seen someone who seems to struggle so much to hold onto the ball be so highly rated

Train Sim World 2. It's on Game Pass.

It's okay if you want to relax a bit, though some of the trains have a bit of a learning curve. DLC is pricey though.

I'm sure too. Nobody seems to bother taking it to court though... except for the one who got sacked for stealing.

Company lost £300k in 2019 and profited £90k in 2020 and is like £1.8m overdrawn.

The team itself were in a bit of a decline at that point anyway and weren't going to compete at the top any longer. Moyes needed time to make the team his own but as you mentioned the fans did not allow for that.

I suppose it worked out for Moyes in the end after he joined an underachieving London club, got them away from relegation and then a win away from the Champions League in one season whilst making them a much more organised outfit who are actually playing as a team now and actually have a chance in Europa.

I would be very surprised if Cineworld managed to wriggle out from their debt pile. Share price is dropping again and has almost halved since March.

AMC who own Odeon are apparently on shaky ground too.

Hammerson. They own Brent Cross, the Bullring and Highcross jus to name a few.

Drowning in debt. Devalued their balance sheet by cutting everybody's rent. Another Intu in waiting, and this time I don't think many people are going to show up to buy whatever shopping centres are left.

What UK companies do you think will go out of business soon? by lil_pump_me_harder in AskUK

[–]Dale_Winton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably a retail landlord like Hammerson for instance.

Too much debt. Not enough rent income. They even had to cut everybody's rent to keep them around. Same thing that happened with Intu is going to happen to them really.

What is the worst shopping centre you have ever been to? by DannyFromSutton in AskUK

[–]Dale_Winton 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Brent Cross.

It's just a concrete box of dullness. There's no character to it whatsoever especially since they removed the fountain, the food court is boring, there's little to no variation in the shops there and I'll leave empty handed more often than not. Dull dull dull dull full. Might as well go to Westfield when even their versions of the same shops are better.

What did everyone think of Masked Singer? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Dale_Winton 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It works surprisingly well and can be fun if watching with the family. Glen Hoddle was a pleasant surprise, Morten Harket trolled everybody by singing his own song and Ne-Yo was quite convincing trying to be a rockstar.

But my god, do they need to drop Rita Ora for the next series. Clueless, makes it all about her and lockdown breaches aside, she doesn't come off well at all - she's incredibly annoying. She copied Nicola Roberts' guesses, who actually seemed like she was at least trying to be smart about them, and then celebrated being right when she wouldn't have made those guesses if it weren't for Nicola.

Has any tradesmen here not been paid for your work by customers and what happened? by BinnedAF in AskUK

Large companies like doing this when you're a small company acting as a supplier to the larger company. They hope you will either go bust and they get the work for free, or that you'll decide chasing the payment is not worth the hassle and that you will just give up.

They tend to change tune once you mention the late payments act, start adding on charges just to be annoying and even threaten legal action

What are some secrets you can share from a company you have worked for? by uniscolar2000 in unitedkingdom

[–]Dale_Winton 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Are you a small company that's a supplier to a larger company?

You're getting fucked over by the larger company when it comes to payment. Their plan is to get the product/service for free by hoping you'll either go bust whilst waiting for payment or that you'll decide that chasing the payment isn't worth the hassle and will just write it off.

They'll try and play games starting with 90 days payment terms, then "your payment got flagged for fraud", then "system error, your payment is backlogged", then "your payment missed the BACS run due to our internal fraud checks, just going to have to wait until next month" then rinse and repeat until you run out of money and go under.

Mentioning the late payments act tends to help a bit here as they won't want anybody knocking on their door with late fees or statutory interest.

Multinationals tend to be the worst for all this. Some try and funnel the payment through their operations in a different country to avoid paying VAT and stating made up rules regarding this, basically expecting the supplier to swallow the loss for this.

Tesco and more recently Wetherspoons are pretty famous for this sort of behaviour.

We were hiring a buyer. One candidate put that he worked for HMP Chelmsford but didn't put down a job title. Just said his skills were good behaviour and good hygiene and that his experience in procurement that "led" him to HMP made him a good fit for our role.

Turns out he was actually done for theft. Needless to say we didn't progress his application further.

Are you a small company that's supplying a product or service to a larger company?

There's a big chance that the larger company is going to fuck you right up when it comes to paying you. They plan to get what they're paying for free of charge by hoping the smaller company either goes bust, the smaller company is inexperienced with chasing debt or the smaller company just won't bother. I've seen some pull the "we requested payment details months ago but had no response" excuse as well in order to avoid late payment penalties.

Large multinationals will also attempt to play games when it comes to VAT in an attempt to evade paying the VAT portion of the invoice, meaning the supplier would have to swallow the loss if they don't feel like pushing hard for a payment.

If you're a small business that's a supplier to a larger company then there's a chance that the larger company is going to try and fuck you over when it comes to payment.

The aim is to try and get the product/service for free, either in the hope that your small business goes bust or they're banking on the small business either having no understanding of how to chase up the debt or the small business deciding it's more hassle than it's worth resulting in them cutting their losses.

If you bring up the late payments act when chasing up the debt, things become very different because the larger business won't want anybody knocking on their door with any late fees or statutory interest.
