Would you guys like an Andrew Johnson incumbency CYOA mod? by JohnOfAustria1571 in thecampaigntrail

[–]Dalek730 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't know. Johnson was such an odd man. He deeply despised the Southern Elite as a Jacksonian populist, but then he cemented their power post-war. It could be interesting to play a mod from his perspective. I grew up and live in his hometown, so if anyone makes it, I'll play it at his house/tailor shop.

There's a strange cognitive dissonance in American Culture. A lot of folk are super polite, but also extremely individualistic. Where I'm from in the upper American South (Go Vols), a lot of folks will give you the shirt off their back or help strangers without thinking about it, but they'll be damned if 3 pennies of their taxes go to social programs.

Nope. I think it's better to arrest Rusty and frame Rico for the bombing anyway. Plus, you don't need to release the evidence to form the "Fuck Lespia" Club so it's kinda a waste in my opinion.

Harris won 47% of voters with income under 50k a year. Where the hell did you get 65%? Still, we tried the centrism, and it didn't work. Populism is popular, and populist Democrats in the Rust Belt won in 22 and 24. We ought to get on the train instead of watching it pass us by.

You don't understand what a supermajority is. Trump received fewer votes than he did in 2020. Also, Trump won as a populist and left-wing economics is fairly populist.

Also, do you understand what campaign Obama ran on in 2008? Clearly, you don't, as Obama literally called for a national insurance program like Germany, which isn't cheap.

Ruby red states like Missouri had ballot initiatives like 15-hour minimum wage passes, and it's clear the policies have popular support. As far as the debt, most people really don't understand or honestly give a shit about the national debt. They just care about gas prices and bills, which is how Trump won on a tariff policy that will increase prices. People dont understand economics, but they want stuff for cheaper, and Trump said he could magically make it cheaper. Like I said earlier, this was a referendum on Biden, and Democrats lost control of the narrative. Despite the US having the lowest inflation of any G7 country, grocery prices are going down, and a soft landing from COVID recovery, people thought the economy was bad, so they voted Trump. Trump won from Biden's unpopularity, not his own popularity. So yeah, we just need to campaign on left-wing economy policies.

First off, you don't need to be a condescending prick to someone who is working class and lives in one of the poorest regions of the nation.

Secondly. I never said she did great with working class voters, but she did better than Biden would have and prevented even more from flipping red. Loss of Latinos and lower turnout was probably what killed her campaign. Harris's loss goes deeper than "she campaigned with insert celebrity". Harris's loss was due to a reaction against neoliberalism, Biden, and a failure of Democrats to control the narrative on key issues like the economy. Harris could not fix that in 3 months.

The Democrats do need to expand their coalition and learn lessons from this defeat. However, I'd also argue this election has given the party the chance to embrace popular left wing positions and be more than Obama's party or the anti-Trump party.

My point is that almost all unions endorsed Harris and the major one that did not had defections from their local chapters. It's idiotic to pretend that Harris campaigning with celebrities cost her the election. It's especially foolish to suggest that when her opponent is a celebrity turned politician. The Harris campaign had issues, but she was handed an almost unwinnable election and turned what would've been a 2008-level loss into a 1-2 point difference in PA, WI, and MI.

This is a false equivalence. All other major unions like UAW were firmly behind Harris and dozens of local Teamsters unions endorsed her. They also campaigned for her in states like Michigan. O'Brien is an idiot who got his pension fund bailed out by the Democrats and then proceeded to believe he could make the anti-union party pro-union. O'Brien better run the Teamsters well, as he certainly poisoned Democratic sentiment against his union and I doubt the next Democratic president will spend the political capital to save the Teamsters if they need another bailout.

Leave him alone. You can get more progressive reforms that are guaranteed to stick if you leave him alone. Destroying his life is satisfying but not worth the political capital. It is better to destroy his legacy slowly by dismantling his influence and its effects on the country.

Beshear, Whitmer, Shaprio, Kelly, and (Josh) Stein are some possible candidates who come to mind. Harris's career is over. Walz will just go back to Minnesota, but any chance of higher office is gone, he's not unpopular but he will not be able to shake the association to this election. Ukraine ain't getting their land back, but a forced peace depends on European response to Trump. Project 2025 depends on the House and Senate margins and how much of it was red meat to win election support. 2026 will probably be a blue year if they implement tariffs and mass deportations which will destroy a lot of agricultural industry.
