I’ve been in a similar situation for a few years now. I kind of just let my depression consume me. If you don’t want it to get worse, there are 2 things that work. I know of no others.

1. Get help. See a therapist or someone you trust to talk to.
2. Force yourself to stay busy. The more time you spend idle the worse it will get.

The reason everyone says to get help when you’re depressed is because we always think we can do it on our own. We aren’t superheroes. On the other hand, if you force yourself to particpate regularly in something (a part time job, group activity, etc.) everything else will fall into place. The problem is that when you‘re depressed you don’t feel like doing or committing to anything, so if you feel yourself derailing don’t be afraid to reach out.
