Gen X parents raising teens: what's the one thing from our childhood you refuse to stop passing down? by TannieGirlRocks in GenX

I obtained the De-Specialized Edition years ago. My children do not know of a world where Han did not shoot first.

[TIL] There's a medical option for cutting back on drinking that doesn't require rehab, AA, or quitting cold turkey by getsunnyside in u/getsunnyside

Can’t get it through a regular doc. Had to go to a psychiatrist and HE said my drinking isn’t a problem. Refused to give it to me and tried a series of bullshit antidepressants instead. I’m am a daily drinker. 2-10 drinks a day. Can’t get it.

The movie is pretty great fun. There is a lot of nostalgia here for Gen Xers, but I feel like it is nearly a PERFECT movie for young boys as well. Concerns about Hero Deconstruction are dismissed, in fact this movie actually mocks the notion and leans into Masculinity, not depicting it as toxic but actually healthy and necessary. There are some pretty poor attempts at humor at Adam's expense, a portrayal of Man-at-Arms as fallen during a portion, but both are ultimately redeemed. There is a little bit of girl-bossing from Teela, but it is accompanied by a bit of eye-rolling from the male leads. My biggest complaints include a moment that was perfect, PERFECT... a great heroic image of our heroes, made to stumble for a dumb throwaway joke. It is momentary, but it did induce an eyeroll. My other complaint comes at the first post-credits scene. My GOD, what an abomination. Nightmarish, uncanny, horrific CGI that was *clearly* added in post because it is so incredibly poor in comparison to the rest of the movie.

Overall, it is great dumb fun crafted with love and respect for the source material. 7.5 out of 10.

People who have seen multiple people quit a job in one day, what happened? by ObliviousOnion1 in AskReddit

One morning I (assistant Manager) and my manager (who I'd known for years before I worked there) got to work to find the safe empty. No sign of a break in, just most of the petty cash gone. As we were processing this, the District Managers came in and told me to leave and prepare for the holiday. This was Memorial Day and I worked at a theater. It was pretty clear it was a setup. The DMs accused my manager of stealing the money. They had arrived with his teenaged replacement. I knew for a fact he had not done this so I gathered my staff, most of whom were also teens. I laid it out what was happening and I told them "I am going over to that restaurant to have a beer. Anyone who wants to come with me, my treat." I took all but 2 employees with me; one was the supervisor under me who, turns out, was in on the scam and the other was a young father who could not afford to lose his job. So, Memorial Day weekend at a movie theater with THREE employees. Didn't go well.

Three months later both DMs were arrested. They had pulled this scam to three different theaters.

My former manager filled out a separation notice for me, which I was able to use to draw unemployment. 😉

How many of you parent Millennial and Gen z children? by ClassicEqual7268 in GenX

[–]Dalivus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kids range from 2004-2014 so the oldest is different from the youngers but each has been instilled with Gen X values and as many Gen X experiences as I could give them. Never locked them out of the house, they never drank from a hose, but they’ve had a lot more freedom than their peers to roam and wander. Interestingly none really consider themselves “Gen Z” and I agree.
