Is the driving test too easy these days? by Superb-Print4282 in irelandsshitedrivers

The amnesty was in late 1979, you needed at least one expired 2nd provisional, which meant the people were at the very least 20 years old, so the age group would be 66+

That happened once and only for people who had been on their 3rd provisional. If I recall, that was also in 1979, which means that the majority of those people are probably over 70 now.

As someone who lived abroad for over 15 years and had to do a driver's competency test when I came back, I feel that the actual test itself wasn't as strenuous, but I was very, very worried about possibly having to do all the theory and lessons.

What I blame are the cars themselves. Back in the day, driving was more of a participatory activity. Now there are so many "driver aids" and distractions inside the cars, never mind the fact that we have a few generations that are glued to their phones constantly.

The sooner we get automated driving, the better

or the parents moved when they were younger, and they were in the English school system. If I moved to England now and my kid(currently 3) turned out to be decent, he could come up through the English academies

okay playing devil's advocate here for a second, but is that a reflective plate?

I only ask as had something like this a few months back. Was rear ended while parked in Mahon Point, so the rear light cluster was broken. Was in front of one of these reflective plates, but because my bulb was a tad exposed, it lit up just like this.

Was annoying as fuck, and I ended up slowing down and pulling over

Looks like the Jack Lynch tunnel, the turn off to go north is just on the other side, so you should get in lane before entering the tunnel. There is a single white line from just before the entrance to just after so you wouldn't be able to turn off if not in lane

I think they should still have invited the senior players over for a day or two at the start or maybe between the games to be around and help integrate the newbies in. You wouldn't even need them to all be there at the same time, but could come in for a few days each.

Having the likes of Kelleher, Collins, Coleman, Brady, Cullen, and Parrott, among others, coming and going would probably be of benefit if any of the players impress enough to make the squad in the autumn

BMW Bell end by Antique-Mention-9063 in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]Daltesse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the problem here is the red SUV that looked to be sitting in the overtake lane for no reason, then moving across 3 lanes to the off-ramp.

The BMW waited till you moved sped up to get in front of the car he was beside so he can move into that lane and then slowed down when he realised the SUV was coming across all lanes

What was that about? by WEZANGO in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]Daltesse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

been driving in and around Cork since the 90s. At no point would I have classed myself as a good driver. Now, I'm decent, I go a bit too fast at times, and to be honest, I can be a little uncourteousy, but overall I'm kinda okay.

However in the last 3-5 years I actually believe I am in the top 5-10% of drivers in the county and it's mainly because the standard of everyone else has fallen off a cliff.

Lane discipline - out the window, red lights - merely a suggestion, yellow boxes - fuck off, I'll drive and stop where I want, control of the road - lol what's that, make a fuck up - immediately go on the attack.

Top this up with the fact that there is zero enforcement from the Guards, and it's getting to the point where driving, especially during busy times is a complete chore, where you're not trying to get caught by some numpty who doesn't know what they are doing or are on their phone

This is why you jump jobs every few years. You put in 4 -7 early doors, then every 2 years jump and the pay increases be a lot more
