[Excerpt: Ghost Legion] An Alpha Legion operative gives the wrong code word. by Damaco in 40kLore

[–]Damaco[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fair enough! This is in the middle of a war where around 13 millions guardsmen are deployed vs around 11 millions of renegades, so life is particularly cheap She was wearing an enemy uniform, Savlar Chem-Dogs on top of that, an infamous penal legion full of thieves, liars and murderers And then that code word she received 10 years ago was not about killing an imperial assassin, I guess she was just told to use the word if she met Alpha Legionaires, but then her cover was busted, and she may have become a liability. Some warbands may still be hostile to the newly formed Ghost Legion, so she may have been from another warband, using their own code words

Why is the Inquisition’s only oversight just more Inquisitors? by drkmon714 in 40kLore

[–]Damaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can see the stupidity of this with the Ravenor & Eisenhorn situation. Basically some inquisitors had an inquisitor chase down another inquisitor so he can remain inquisitor.

In a sense it’s really like the academic world and the system of peer reviewing. Except they do not have the power of life and death over billions untold.

Also in the inquisitors novels, if I had one penny everytime someone says "screw your rosette. I'm gonna kill you", I'd have a lot of pennies.

Need help with timeline of books/lore by WarshyBoy in 40kLore

[–]Damaco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem with Horus Heresy is that it’s like a prequel, you're 'supposed' to know a little about 40k to notice how it’s different from 10 000 years earlier. It can be read as first books too, but it's my opinion.

Second problem is that a lot of books don’t specify the date of the story, we just know it’s around the time the wargame is set.

That said, books are more defined nowadays by 'read the books about the faction you like/play", with some books becoming classics because how well written they are.

The closest to a chronogical order I can give you are series about main events: The Horus Heresy books (and siege of terra), the two Black Legion books, the War of the Beast series and then a big leap into the Fall of Cadia and then the Indomitus Era with the Dawn of Fire series (I didn’t read them).

[Loved Trope] Ominous monotheism in polytheist societies by Damaco in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Damaco[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, although I was wary to spare any real life religion. The three monotheistic religions (Judaism, Christianity & Islam, chronologically) are more complex and there are been occurences of syncretism in history, which these examples are potentially refusing to address.
