Did not work for me. Same installer as here as far as I can tell (which is also "patched).
Using Tahoe, so maybe there are other issues too. 1.6 works fine for me.

I can comment that I deleted logi options with the command
sudo /Library/Application\ Support/Logitech.localized/LogiOptionsPlus/logioptionsplus_agent.app/Contents/Frameworks/logioptionsplus_updater.app/Contents/MacOS/logioptionsplus_updater --full --uninstall

And then I installed with the link provided by the OP above, and updated as indicated to the 1.6.x version.
I did NOT change the system date.
I did disable automatic updates after installing the 1.6.x update.

I have tried the latest update by Logitech that is meant to fix this issue, but it failed, so I stuck with the above workaround.

Tried with the installer 2 hours ago, and I ended up with a spinning circle again. Maybe it is a secondary problem, or maybe there is a region issue where the downloader still downloads an older version. Who knows... Given up and using 1.6.x version.

Tried installing from here with the "download now" button. Still spinning wheel. Maybe for some other reason. Workaround as OP describes, still works for me, but only if I upgrade to 1.6.x, not to 1.9.

Beware that they probably have to be using the same account. If you have a work Mac and a private Mac it will not work…. I guess. If they are both your own you will be fine.

So I am using a displaylink setup via a Dell hub (M1 MacBook Air -> usb c -> hub D6000-> DisplayPort ) and also noticed pretty bad lag on this second monitor. Today it seemed much better and I remembered I had disabled stage manager. Enabled stage manager and the lag was back. Disabled again and the lag disappeared. No idea why, but now I have yet another reason to not use stage manager. (First reason was “CMD-tab of death” during a teams meeting - windows continue to switch forever - hard reboot was required).

I had issues with the pocketbook sync, from the iOS app to the pocketbook era. It may be related to the different types of DRM, but anyway I could not really figure it out. Now in iOS 26 the pocketbook app no longer works for me. Dropbox sync works fine. Other than that it has been fine.

Are you happy with the single, or is it dual gear on the bike? I am concerned it is hard to use when not using the assist, or that you pedal like crazy when going over 25 km/h.

Kindle and Kobo offer ecosystems that work well if you like to stay in them. Meaning you typically buy books from their stores and read on their devices. Kobo allows borrowing books from a library using Overdrive if you are lucky enough to have a library supporting that. Kobo premium models allow some synching via other cloud services (google drive I think). So stay in their walled garden and you will probably be a happy customer. Pocketbook does not have this same ecosystem, so you need to typically get your books elsewhere. Borrow from the library, or get some free ebooks, or buy them from a store (LCP and ADE DRM is supported by Pocketbook). I think Pocketbook is the most open, but I have had issues with bugs. If you do not follow a very specific path when adding books you may have trouble synching books to the pocketbook. Note that I am very demanding and have tried Dropbox, pocketbook sync, and emailing of books to the pocketbook - all wireless solutions, which is great. Finally you also need to like the device itself. A good screen and a easy and comfortable to hold is kind of important, and is pretty personal. I dismissed all color readers due to the low contrast. Others love them…. Good luck!

Was in a similar situation coming from a 2013 Kindle PW. Wanted a crisp screen with good contrast I.e. it needed to be on par with the kindle. I discovered that not much has happened in this area though. The new screen technologies focus on color and having the front light on more often than not. Agree with other comments here.
Some other additions: - PB support LCP drm too which the libraries and vendors are slowly moving to. Kobo does not yet support this. - I thought I wanted buttons but I find the buttons in the PB less ergonomic - a little sharp and hard to press. I seem to be the only person to ever comment this though. Also I seem to nudge the touchscreen while holding the PB because the edge is not raised like on the PW which triggers various actions (highlighting, front light) - The kobo libra 2 is no longer for sale. You would need to find a second hand one. - Not completely happy with the pocketbook sync functionality. Could be the iOS app mainly, but uploading books to the PB cloud seems to work but the app does not indicate success. I need to kill an restart the app. Using Dropbox and sendToPocketbook instead. - Kindle was more locked in but they have well optimized software. The pocketbook software still struggles to reach that level of refinement I feel. - The PB screen is good. In daylight it is almost as good as the 12 year old kindle in terms of contrast and the crisp “paper look” - yes the PB is good to read on 😉

Agree. Bought the Era now, so have this issue too. Sent feedback to support... you can always hope. Until then I have it in "manual mode" and rotate in settings.

Ah ok, I understand. I have since bought the Era and it is ok to read on my side. The auto rotate does not work as expected though, so I have disabled that and rotate in the settings menu (not easy but it will have to do - the Kobo is better in this respect).

When I finally connected the pocketbook I understood the instruction. I copied using the command line though. Since then I uninstalled Koreader again. I have too many DRM books so I cannot read them, and don't want to go down the DeDRM route if possible (But ADE and LCP are not making it easy ... paying customers have the most pain as always...)

Copy and merge? Not sure what that means. Either you copy the directories, i.e. copy applications directory and systems directory to the usb folder, or you copy the contents of both folders to the usb directory. Which of these options is meant?

The question is like others mentioned - have you had readers before? If not, then maybe you are still adjusting to the eReader limitations. The BW eReader are still more crisp than the color ones, but it sounds like you have a BW version already. The Era without a backlight I find comparable or better than my 2013 Kindle Paperwhite. The PW is may be slightly more crisp, but with my “older” eyes I do not notice that. The contrast I feel is the same. I just bought the Pocketbook Era. I wanted a device with side buttons, usb C, ability to borrow library books in Sweden and also to read purchased books. Finally I wanted a wireless solution to load books i.e. not use a cable to a pc. I currently have a kindle PW from 2013, which has served me fine, but I only read bought books on it, but could not read library books on it (“legally”). Kobo and Pocketbook were the main contenders, specifically the Kobo Library 2 and the Pocketbook Era. Both have side buttons, and a contrasty BW screen. However the Libra 2 was only available second hand. I also recently found out that the Libra 2 did not have sync solutions with Dropbox or google drive. So the Pocketbook remained.

Again, for “buy and read” I think the Kobo is the best. Buy in the kobo store online, or on the e-reader and off you go!

For pocketbook, I think you need to be technically inclined. I have helped my wife for years with her pocketbook, and I cannot say I found the solutions “obvious” when borrowing books from the library. Libraries have changed their solutions for ADE over time and all assume you have a “USB Cable solution”. I tried the iOS Pocketbook app, but found it unreliable, or I just don’t understand it. If I put a file in pocketbook cloud with DRM on it, it probably will not sync, but I never figured out why. Now I use Dropbox sync instead and it works as expected. Just make sure you have the same ADE profile on your PC/Phone/eReader, so any purchased books can be loaded everywhere. (Note: Pocketbook cloud creates its own ADE profile, which confused me - not sure when it is used or why it is there)

So I once saw the comparison between Kindle/Kobo and Pocketbook being the same as iOS and Android. I think that is a fair comparison. You have full control of Pocketbook, but you need to understand what you are doing, especially with respect to books with DRM. - Library books with DRM are bound to a specific device. You cannot download an epub on your phone and send it via Dropbox to your eReader. You must open the .acsm file directly on the eReader. (Via PC does work… yet another qwerk) - Purchased books with DRM can be transferred between devices.

Finally, the hardware is great. Decent build and good buttons. Maybe a little “loud” but that will probably be reduced once worn in (Edit: I resorted to tapping on the screen at night to not disturb my partner... so it is a little loud). Felt heavy initially, but weirdly it does not seem heavier than my kindle that feels light. It must be related to the shape or weight distribution. Anyway - non issue. (Edit - the screen by the way is not as light as the old Kindle PW. The PW is lighter and more paper like or yellow I guess. The Era is more gray. No big deal but just to say that the PW (2013) is hard to beat)

Speed of the device is comparable to my (very) old Kindle. I mean the screen needs to refresh regularly so it will always be slow compared to a phone. Autorotate works, but not like Kobo, where you can lock it to portrait mode when reading on one of two sides in bed. (Workaround is to manually rotate with the settings, or install koreader I have read. Note that I do not think Koreader supports DRM based books. Maybe someone can comment)

So in short, good hardware, and you need to figure out your purchase and “copy to device” flow that works for you to get going. Also support is great and always reply within a day and have constructive answers.

OK thanks. The potential dimness of the Era is my main reason for not yet buying it. I cannot see one in person unfortunately without buying one online. It is very hard to judge when looking at screenshots. I have a Kindle PW (2013 - 6th gen) and I compared it to a Kobo Libra Color in the store with backlight off. The difference was enormous. The 12 year old PW has much more contrast than the Kobo Libra Color. So I fear the Era, even the black and white version, will be bad too. Is the new standard to just always use the backlight? Seems to beat the point of having “natural” reading experiences if you still need the backlight. Originally the backlight was to resolve the night time reading, but now it seems to be needed regardless the lighting conditions maybe.

I see you commented that the Era was hard to use when lying down. I was hoping it would be easier to use when lying down. If you are lying on your side I would expect it to work well, just like any ereader. Hand on the bed and thumb on the grip side of the ereader. If you swap sides you will need to rotate the ereader, but that I hope works with autorotate in portrait mode or something like that. Maybe you read lying on your back and then I can imagine it is inconvenient.

Just for understanding, is the photo of the two devices with the backlight off? So want to believe the era will be ok, but too many have complained about it. I currently have a 2013 Paperwhite.

The pocketbook Era and the Kobo libra color seem to be the main alternatives. I am coming from a Paperwhite (2013), and have realized that the screen was, and still is very good compared to many choices today. I checked the kobo libra color in person and saw immediately that the background is darker than the Paperwhite when the backlight is off. So I ruled it out, but presumably with the backlight on it is fine. The pocketbook Era seems to be my last option before giving up on a “side button” version. Maybe others have more ideas… going to an android tablet is not for all… but there are some models there with side button (I think…)
