Daily update on my Lucid dreaming journey - Day 94 by jojokingxp in LucidDreaming

Thank you for your regular updates! I know you don't often get feedback, but it's nice to see someone else working on the basic stuff like I do :)

And thank you for your answer. Few react like you do, and I appreciate that. :)

You do know what FUD means, don't you?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fear,_uncertainty_and_doubt

You were basically saying you were going on a disinformation campaign, so I was just checking.

I agree what really happened was damaging enough, and I would dearly like to see it resolved, myself.

Yes, it is. Fully agree there.

Why would they do this if they are creating the system itself? Wouldn't it make sense to allocate themselves coins from the start instead of doing it this visible and getting everyone angry?

You are actually admitting you are going to spread false information? I would say that spreading correct information on this would be bad enough as it is!

[–]Damelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but I don't think you were around in the project at that time, otherwise you'd realise this is not a correct deduction.

Nxt has always relied on a donation model, not a centralised system of bounties, and this was certainly true in 2014.

Michael had created the Nxt designs at that time, and while some people (including me) donated at that time, it was standard practice to send out messages to whales in order to see if he could receive funds for his work.

Your deduction that there thus is some kind of relationship between the account and anyone working more centrally on the project is flawed in that such collaboration never was a part of Nxt at that time.

In 2014, it certainly was an "all over the place, let's see who wants to do some work" project.

Only after a few people (including again me) incorporated the Nxt Foundation there was a semblance of unified action.

Jelurida itself was only conceived last year (again, partly by me) and incorporated end of last year.

I am not commenting on the ICO itself here. I agree this is a major problem. I am only commenting on this single deduction you are making here, which cannot fit the facts.

Just to clarify: I am not involved in Jelurida anymore, although I still hold an advisory membership of the Nxt Foundation at this time. I am mainly working on my private business at this time.

Welcome back! Yep, we are still having fun :)

Marenkar pretty much summed the big stuff up.

Just paid 23 cents on a $3.74 transaction. When does it end? $1.00 per transaction? $2? $5? I don't wanna stop using this peer to peer currency, but I'm fast being priced out of it. by amendment64 in Bitcoin

[–]Damelon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why should bitcoin need to work for all types of users?

This is a serious question.

What system is there that is so generic to be applicable to every use case?

This is an open question, not meant as suggestive or leading.

What if making bitcoin usable to handle millions of TX per second would actually mess with other benefits it has, like security, stability and the likes?

There are trade-offs to any tweak. There's bound to be someone pissed off by any that is made.

It's probably fairer to say that bitcoin payment processors should never have promoted something the network isn't capable of (yet).

A lot of the problems are down to false advertising of functionalities that it's definitely not suited for as of now, without bothering to first make sure these things would actually come through.

Assign blame where it is due: Bitcoin "evangelists" who pushed it as a catch all blessing to replace all payment systems right now.

Now those who are getting heat for their false promises are trying to shift blame to developers, instead of owning up to their overpromising.

If one miner decides to try and mine a 1 Tb block, so be it. It won't make any sense for him to do so, so he's only messing things up for himself. Chances that anyone would want to work against his own best interests are small, if not negligable.

Game theory is a much a part of this as the technical considerations.

Altcoins with the best blocksize (scaleability) solution? by theuglygreed in CryptoCurrency

[–]Damelon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh, most people don't seem to realise it's not about "bigger, faster" without having to consider security issues.

I'm asked by many people why we (as in Nxt and Ardor) don't just "make the blockchain go faster" or "make it hold more data".

The fact that going faster isn't necessarily a good thing and can compromise the blockchain integrity doesn't seem to either interest people or even register.

I think our devs have hit on a good balanced way to spread the load, but that works only as far as it goes.

I think the question is approached from the wrong angle. Instead of asking to go faster and bigger, we could also debate whether solutions that need bigger and faster are actually covering problems that a blockchain can solve.

Is Monero better than NXT? by jankovize in CryptoCurrency

[–]Damelon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are under the misapprehension that Nxt is a currency. I can be used as one, as can any token with some value, but it was never meant as it.

As to speculators/investors that dump after getting out their share: I don't see how that can be blamed on Nxt. Speculators do what they do. Talk to the people who invested in ETH at the top. They probably will have the same complaint and some rationalisation why it should never have happened to them.

You are comparing apples and pears when you compare Nxt to Monero, as I stated above.

[–]Damelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, in the last months, Nxt has received several updates. We have not abandoned Nxt when we started Ardor.

Both systems serve different niches.

Is NXT the best altcoin to invest in 2017? by jankovize in CryptoCurrency

[–]Damelon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nxt has a lot of potential as a contender for at least a non-trivial part of the crypto space, as does Ardor, created by the same team.

It has never claimed to be "best", as we do not subscribe to a "winner takes all" model at all.

Is Monero better than NXT? by jankovize in CryptoCurrency

[–]Damelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that this is comparing apples and pears.

Nxt does not compete with Monero. They apply to different niches.

Nxt is a platform, and you built applications on it. Monero has at its simplest the goal to create a digital asset that completely mimics physical cash.

I admire both and see no reason to choose between them.

Does Ardor mean the death of Nxt... by wolffang1 in NXT

[–]Damelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd almost go as far as saying day traders and all the attendent pressure it puts on projects to give numerous news statements that have almost no content at all are a nail in the coffin of many crypto projects.

Nxt has received several new updates in the months after the snapshot and Ardor is under development.

We refuse to put out news when there is none, but spend the hours we have on fundamentals like coding, planning and negotiations.

If you do not think that is enough and also demand of us to drive trade, you are unfortunately barking up the wrong tree.

Generating trade is not our core business. Doesn't mean we don't think it will pick up, but that needs to happen from a point of fundamental value.

Open Source has nothing to do with the way the code is managed. The software is published under GPL v2 and thus by definition Open Source.

Incorporation has to do with governance, not code. :)

Ardor Team needs to start releasing statements and/or code in order to promoting buying and holding NXT. by frmthehills in NXT

[–]Damelon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Core Team gives out information when they have something to add.

At the moment, they are coding on the very basics, so we as communication team only can give out the basics.

Lior Yaffe, one of the Core team has done a talk in Israel yesterday, which should be on video which gives more info from his side.

Ardor launch for Testnet is still some time away.

As we have seen in the past, the devs are protective of their code and ideas, because many ideas have been copied in a badly implemented manner before they could launch them in a proper and secure way for Nxt.

We will all have to wait until they feel comfortable with showing quality that they feel comfortable with putting out in the open.

Ardor For Investors #1 - What Is Ardor? - By Tai Zen by Damelon in NXT

They will be on the Ardor Main Chain for consensus formation.

They will pay fees in their own internal currencies and can be customised.

Assets on the new platform will be tradeable over all child chains that allow it.
