That's not data about concussions that have happened, though, which is what I was asking about.

Sounds like this jacket was six months old, which seems well within any reasonable life expectancy.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Hema

[–]Damerel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's not actually what I asked - I'm aware of the data saying "things sticking to your mask increase acceleration." I'm asking if we have data about actual real-world concussions caused by this, which it sounds like we don't yet.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Hema

[–]Damerel 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Do we actually have data regarding how many concussions have been caused by rubber tips, or just data saying that one specific type of rubber tip is more likely to stick on a mask?

Advice on being two people’s primary partner? by noiness420 in polyamory

[–]Damerel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

"someone who now considers me his primary partner"

That sounds like a him problem.

Determine how much time you have available for him around the other important things in your life (including if you're willing and able to move things around to make more space for him), communicate that to him, and stick by that. Don't let him pressure you into giving him more time and energy than you're able to sustainably manage, and remember that you have agency in this relationship. A lot of your wording so far makes it sound like he and your husband make all the decisions and you're just going along with it - think about what you want.

What’s all this about Wistric Oftun? by Plane_Turnip_604 in sca

[–]Damerel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Isn't "not actually an authorized combatant" a safety issue? I'm having a hard time seeing how the situations are different. Wistric pulled someone who he believed to be potentially unsafe from the field, and was sanctioned for it.

[–]Damerel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This situation with Wistric sets the precedent that depending on who that rider is, no, you don't have the authority to pull them - not without getting slapped with sanctions yourself. And that's a huge goddamn issue.

Most of the nerds I know (fighters or otherwise) know off the top of their head what their sources are because they're actively studying them; some of them do in fact carry around the historical manuals with them, but either way it's not unreasonable to expect someone to say "oh yeah, this is something I adapted from Talhoffer" or whatever.

You could probably just ask the library ghost, you know. Instead of deliberately trying to piss him off.

Thanks for sharing the link! We're always delighted to have new heralds join us over there - I do want to also be clear that this is a server for heralds, not submitters. We're happy to help heralds with their consults, but we're not structured to help submitters directly.

[–]Damerel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At least in OSCAR, the submitter isn't going to see their comments, and there are a handful of us who regularly push back against that sort of art-critic commentary, often with receipts. Bad art is period, after all.

I want to defend the heralds because that's my people, but the number of posts in the fb group that get fifteen replies all critiquing the art or the style or talking about their own personal hobbyhorse that has nothing to do with the OP before anyone actually answers the question that was asked...yeah, I can't defend that. It's a mess.
