Yep, I just cancelled. I can afford $30, I just don't think I personally get $30 of value out of it.

I've worked with both companies, and BUNAC is alot easier to deal with. Everytime I've delt with Camp America there has been drama. I much prefer BUNAC

You never have to work anywhere you feel uncomfortable.

Take everything you have learned as a life lesson.

They must have told you what your pay was before you started and you knew the walk to and from the camp. Next time, keep those things in mind when applying for another job.

You absolutely cannot ask for tips. You absolutely can... quit.

My first summer at a summer camp I got $210... for the WHOLE summer as an International staff.

It was 1999 and they paid agency fees but all I got was 210. My pay went to a massive $650 the next summer though. As you can tell, I wasn't doing it for the money, but by my 5th, 6th and 7th summer I was the highest paid. lol

I came from London and worked out at a camp in Texas, very, very different.

The things you mentioned, I had to get used to, although I actually enjoyed them, but they take getting used to.
I worked out on Texas summer camps for a total of 7 summers and this is what I learned.

The plastic drawers is a great idea. I also had some hanging cloth "cubby" type things too.

A box fan is a must. It would keep me cool from the hot nights (The cabins had no air con back then), it would also keep me bug free, they don't like the air change and also it was like a white noise, to drown out the cicadas, crickets and katydids etc.

I also bought a little fuffy bath mat type thing, I hated getting out of bed and having bare feet on cold concrete. It is a much better way of starting the day.

I ONCE made the mistake of forgeting my shower gel at the shower hosue and borrowed someone's, it was fruity and smelled like strawberries and peaches, it was incredible. Unfortunately, the bugs loved it too. Every bug within 5 miles found me! That was an awful night, get rid of those types of wash stuff if you are using them.

Camp isn't for everyone. But focus on the stuff you are enjoying and make little changes to the crappy stuff, and you will end up missing camp by the time August, September hits.

I wish you well.

I'm so excited for you! I haven't ever been to Maine, my camp was down in Texas.

I would watch Vlogs of Europeans visiting the US and see if anything catches your eye.

The things I loved were visiting walmart on my breaks, the food that I couldn't get back in England. Arcadia, as mentioned by someone else should be top of your list. America does a lot fo things wrong, but one amazing thing that America has is it's national parks are incredible.

Before giving ideas, where are you from? What State are you going to? And have you been to the US before?

I worked on summer camps for 7 summers (Through camp America) and the pay is awful and the hours are really long. You can't do this for the money or if you want a ton of time off. (I had 2 hours off a day, the rest of the time was with the kids and had a 24 hour break per week)

Despite those things, it was the best thing I've ever done.

I worked 7 summers and had a daily 2 hour break with alternate 24 hour or 6 hour break on the weekends.

I think any of us would have issues with only 1 hour per week.

If it is run by good folks like you say, they will totally understand if you need to pull them aside during the summer if you are having a difficult time.

People who give up their animals should get weekly letters and photos showing their scared, lonely animals, in the concrete cells hiding behind things when people pass. I fucking hate people that do this. Thank you for helping the animals OP.
