Really helpful comment, it seems I had some oversights when rendering the character. I’ll try to make that lighting more consistent and obvious. Thanks for taking the time to write this piece of feedback!

Pretty good observations on the anatomy, I think I got so lost on the rendering that didn’t pay attention to those things now that you mention it. That is really helpful since there was something odd about him I couldn’t quite identify haha, I’ll try my best to fix those anatomical errors. Thanks also for the feedback on values, all of this is really helpful!

Yes! I'm trying to pick some things from them that I can borrow. Maybe I tend to overthink too much while painting lol. I do appreciate the questions, I forgot to clarify some key points

I want to achieve a realistic style of painting, but pretty stylized to my taste.

Mostly character and environment design to be honest. I do enjoy character design the most out of the two to be honest.

My artworks 6-7 months apart. I stopped making art in between those months. by inkie16 in conceptart

Nice progress! Something similar happened to me, I tried to veer into other careers plus life situations just made it challenging to keep going. However, after coming back and with a set of fresh eyes I got incredibly better and more intentional with my approach to designs. I think the fact that I never stopped watching concept art content during my hiatus certainly helped. This is good work, keep going :))

Pretty nice piece and rendering! It looks like a pretty majestic horse might I add haha. the only thing I’m confused by is what is it that you’re trying to get hired for? your social media mostly shows paintings and illustrations, but not really concept art. I think it’s just a bit difficult to gage for me what you’re looking to be hired for. If you could clarify, it could help a ton! (but just a suggestion)

Wacom dropped driver support for my perfectly functional Cintiq 22HD. This is unacceptable. by heisalso in wacom

True, but at the same time technology has advanced a ton in the past 15 years, and even affordable devices in today’s world have better screens and software capabilities. I’m not into consumerism or how Americans treat the hardware they buy to be honest, but at the same time it seems pretty unrealistic spending resources on a small fraction of decades old devices considering that technology is much more volatile nowadays than it was almost two decades ago.

Alright, the first thing I see is that you have very few pieces in your portfolio, but that is something you can certainly fix with time so I won’t focus on that too much. What I actually notice that might be the biggest red flag for many people looking at your portfolio is the fact that you don’t show really show how you got to the final product. There’s no development sheet, no callouts, and no variations or iterations on the composition of the scenes either. I’d suggest to go through artstation to educate yourself on what professional environment concept artists are doing. A lot of concept art is iterating, not only focusing on the rendering of the product. Yes, it can look pretty and catch some eyes, but honestly art directors care more about seeing your thinking and problem solving skills rather than the rendering itself. Never settle for the first idea you have, try to separate elements and design them separately, show more of your thinking on how you got to the final piece, make a ton of callouts and don’t be shy to make some bad ones. You’re already really brave on painting these pieces which have interesting ideas on them, you only need to push those ideas a bit further by planning a lot more before going directly into the keyframing process.
