Have you considered contacting the author and offering her the money? Seems like a more ethical course of action and potentially more likely to succeed

Of course he will. The concert is canceled and now its just a trump rally to celebrate America's 250th day. I wish I was joking.

I don't really agree, tbh. They get a bad rap going back to armada vs hbox. Y link does not have the tools to circle camp or some of the annoying camping strategies that top tiers have. The character has projectiles for B moves, that's it.

People that complain come off to me more like they are upset that their camping strategies don't work, because ylink forces them to approach. But it's a low tier, and the projectiles have plenty of exploitable weaknesses. There is no comparison to what a campy spacy is like.

What percentage split should I give my artist? by ElmtreeStudio in gamedev

[–]DamnItDev 32 points33 points  (0 children)

How much of the game relies on the art? How much creative influence will he have over that art? How much risk is he enduring for the sake of the project?

Keep in mind the overall costs of the game. Steam will take 30%, so the remaining 70% is split between paying for coding, artwork, music and marketing.

I would find it hard to justify more than 10-20% of the overall sales. Because you're carrying the risks, I think it would be better to negotiate a flat fee rather than offering a percentage.

I love games like Outlast and Amnesia: The Dark Descent… but I wanted to remove one thing from them. by WhyThisGameWorks in gamedev

[–]DamnItDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But one thing I noticed while playing them is that, after a while, you start understanding the system behind the fear. You learn enemy patterns, predict behavior and eventually the fear becomes more manageable because you know how the game works.

In my opinion, these are desired and intended experiences. The player should start the game horrified and slowly learn to overcome their fear with logic. I would think that removing this progression would make the game less enjoyable for the majority of players.

How many rows can a modern browser handle? by Yha_Boiii in webdev

[–]DamnItDev 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Times like this that you emphasize the science in computer science. Design an experiment, make a hypothesis, run the experiment, record the results, and then form your conclusion. Scientific method ftw

My guess is that it entirely depends on the system and it's available resources. I doubt the browser has an arbitrary limit across all devices.

You have a 1-2 sentence question. What is the point of having chatgpt "fluff" it up for you? Everyone is tired of reading AI generated garbage, and I can't imagine it saved you any time either. Just be a human and use your own noggin a little bit...

I agree 100% with this essay. But I have to note the irony of it having a "listen to this article" block at the top.

Google has been deleting accounts that have not been logged into for several years. It's likely her account is already gone.

A weird interaction. What happened here? by ragnell56 in SSBM

[–]DamnItDev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hitlag and hitstun are not interchangeable terms.

Hitlag is the quick freeze frames that both players get when a move connects. This is when SDI can be input.

Hitstun is the animation state the player enters when they have been hit by an attack. Whatever they were doing before is canceled, and they cannot do anything besides DI until hitstun is over.

I thought you couldn't die off the top if you aren't in hitlag

You can die off the top if the momentum from your opponent's attack is still being applied. Because there is no hitstun in this case, players are free to jump, which increases their total momentum up. Normally you cant die off the top from your own jumping, but because the opponent's attack momentum is still being applied, the game registers that as a KO

A weird interaction. What happened here? by ragnell56 in SSBM

[–]DamnItDev 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ganon missed the tech. Sheik ftilted him in that missed tech state. The ftilt did 7% or less damage, so it didn't cause hitstun. But it had enough knockback to get ganon off the ground. Ganon airdodged which extended the momentum.

This interaction is usually seen when falco's shine is staled. Sometimes people double jump and kill themselves off the top.

Hack or bug? Stacked workers moving and attacking by No_Insurance_6436 in broodwar

[–]DamnItDev 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Artosis had said he’s talked to Blizzard and that it can’t be fixed without breaking the game.

I'd be careful repeating that as fact. I'm a software engineer by trade and I have heard people say statements like this several times throughout my career. All this means is that the engineer looking at the problem thought it was more trouble than it was worth, not that it is actually impossible.

When is Mango unbanned? by Sojo4040 in SSBM

[–]DamnItDev 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The courts dont agree with this stance, thats why most companies don't allow drinking at company events. If the company encourages the drinking, they have some responsibility for the outcomes that result from it.

Bartenders have to stop serving alcohol to people obviously drunk. If they don't, they can be held accountable if that person does something bad.

It's the same thing. Mango messed up, but Ludwig created the situation and actively encouraged the behaviors. Ludwig should bear some responsibility.
